RotR: joining a boarding group question?

I've watched a few videos as to how it look when joining the boarding group.
One person said you don't actually HAVE to select your party and anyone linked in your MDE who has a park pass reservation for HS that day will just automatically be added.
Is this true or do I have to ensure that the other person in my party is selected?
I want to do it as quickly as possible but don't want to mess something up where only I end up with a boarding group.
Wish you could select your party and then wait for the join button to turn blue.

Anyone linked to you who has a ticket and a park pass will be automatically selected.

What you need to do is hit Join, Join, Continue on successive screens. Do not stop to read anything, just three hits as fast as possible. You have 5-8 seconds to do it.

So ive heard you can change/add people via cast members. Heres why i ask. We have 11 people going. Some don’t really care others is a must (my nephews for 1). So lets say you have 3 people trying to get a boarding pass. We will call then prequel original and sequel. So prequel anakin and padme would like to ride but mace and jango dont care. Original luke really wants to han and leia dont really care. Sequel ben and rey have to ride and rose and finn would really like to. Sooooo perfect world all three get a boarding pass. But lets say only original gets one. Im thinking its 4 people per boarding pass (correct me if im wrong). Could luke swap out han for ben and rey? (Luke only had 3 people on his boarding pass)

One person can get a boarding group for everyone who is linked to them in MDE. I know people who got BGs for 17+ people.

But if everyone is linked then the first person to succeed will get them for everybody. Your scenario risks only one family being able to ride.

CMs can add someone who was not included but only if they are already linked to you and had a park reservation so should have been included. In other words, if a glitch occurred. If you stop to check their name is there, you’ll lose the chance to get a BG.

That’s good to hear! Any idea what happens to littles too short to ride? We’ve got a group of 15 going down, but 4-5 are too young/short to ride and we’ll need to do rider switch (unless there’s a better option?).

All members of your party (age 3 and up) who have a DHS park pass will be auto-selected and included in the BG. When your BG is called, you tell a CM that you need a rider swap pass, which will be scanned onto the MagicBands of those staying with the littles. After the others complete the ride, those who have the rider swap can enter the attraction via the Fastpass lane once they are scanned in by a CM.

Note that it can take 25-30 minutes for the first party to complete the attraction and that’s assuming no breakdowns. We took the littles to other attractions while the adults rode. They texted us when they were done and we arranged a meeting place.

OH i was basing everything off of just being able to get a max of 4-6 people on a boarding pass. its harder than it should be to find info on this stuff and ive been trying to keep up since it started. Thank you for your help. And if i understand right i dont ahve to click people when im getting the boarding pass.. its just accept accept accept dont stop .. right?

It’s been this way for more than a year so likely won’t change.

You just gotta be FAST. Speed is your friend at 7am. Should you be denied, the 1pm window is typically open longer and you’ll likely have success.
Correct, speed is indeed your friend at 7 am. I wasn’t quite fast enough this past Saturday.

For the 2:00 BG attempt it is my understanding that everyone in your group must be in the park or you will see a message like the one below if someone is on your list but outside of the park.

I play the BG game back at home, over 1,000 miles from WDW, frequently at the two magic hours of the day. I know I cannot get a pass but the procedure takes me to the one last tap prior to getting one. Practice makes perfect and it has helped me shave off a second or two and also discover an ever so slightly faster way to do it. ;)

Just a reminder, the second drop is now at 1pm, not 2pm.

Everyone must have tapped into the park by 1pm, but you don’t still need to be in the park. You can be eating lunch somewhere or back at your resort.

Yes, I messed up when I posted the time. I live in a different time zone and wasn't thinking when I tried to adjust for EDT when I posted that the other day. When I practice the BG pass game I do it at the right time. Which reminds me, that starts in about 4 minutes. Gotta get ready. :)

Edit: I just did the game and managed to "get" a pass 7x before it said the queue was full.

Does this process change with the Genie+ and the pay-to-ride system that's rolling out?
Will we still have a chance to join in this manner for free?
