Rope drop

Hi guys, coming in a few months. Should we consider early breakfast ( Crystal Palace ) or just get to rope drop so we can do a few rides before using fast pass?

Depends on time of year and what rides you want to do. I've had plenty of luck rope dropping MK and getting on a bunch of things towards the back of the park (things on the way to Big Thunder, essentially) with little wait before the crowds pick up. The only attraction I can really see warranting getting breakfast for is Mine Train, if you don't already have a FP for it. If you're going to be there when it's mobbed around the holidays, breakfast may be worth it, but if you're otherwise only getting breakfast to get there early I'm not sure if it's necessarily worth the extra expense.

Rope drop is overrated and overcrowded. I think it’s much better to stay late and wait people out, particularly kids. Everyone rope drops and then can’t stay until 11pm. Then the parks are empty, the weather is pleasant, and you can ride everything.

The only rope drop that’s semi worth it Flight of Passage. Almost anything else is a walk on to max 20min wait in the last hour or so before close. We did 7DMT 30 Min before closing and it was a 10 minute wait.

All bets are off during Holidays.

We have not done an early morning breakfast in the MK, but if I understand the rope drop strategy, I don't think there is any real advantage to eating breakfast at the Crystal Palace. The real advantage would be eating breakfast at Be Our Guest or Cinderella's Castle, though the Castle is more expensive and you would have to rush through it. Now if you are trying to get pictures of a nearly empty MK, than Crystal Palace could be a good idea as you slowly walk to it for your ADR, but you only get Main Street.

In my opinion, just rope drop and that would give you the advantage for the day you may be seeking. But if you want even a better advantage than make your ADR for BOG.

SHHH. That's what I do go to the back and walk on Splash ant then a short wait for BTMR. But I keep it a secret so others don't start doing it.

Oh, uh, no one should do this plan. It's terrible. Don't listen to us loonies...

To be honest, I imagine most people rope dropping go for Mine Train or Space Mountain, so even if it got popular the Splash/Thunder option still wouldn't effect much. I don't even see a line for Pan that early in the morning.

The only time I'd do a park breakfast is if it's BEFORE rope drop. If I can get in and eat a fine (?) breakfast starting at 8am, and then be ready for rope drop at 9am, I'm there!

We're going to be at WDW this weekend, and Sat morning is extra magic hours for Animal Kingdom. I've never gotten a fastpass for this ride, and haven't had a chance to be there for (relatively) short lines. I'm planning on doing rope drop for this. How long in advance do you recommend being there for rope drop at Animal Kingdom?

I’d do it 5 minutes before closing as everyone has the same idea to rope drop in the morning. You’ll wait an hour or more just to be one if the first people rushing to get there and you’ll still likely wait.

That's what I was afraid of. We've got Typhoon Lagoon for morning and mid-afternoon planned, and Animal Kingdom that night. I was going to try and do rope-drop that morning to ride it, then meet the rest of the family at Typhoon Lagoon (they aren't interested in riding it). Sounds like I just need to wait until that evening to try to ride it.

One thing to be aware of is if you book at BOG and they then change the hours to EMH, or less of an issue EMM, then your advantage is gone.

During EMM, you won’t be able to ride until 9am, but you will be able to line up before the crowd from rope drop reach 7dmt / PPF. If there’s EMH, and you’re eligible for them, then you would be wasting precious lower crowd times with an ADR.
