Room Upgrades?

i've been reading a lot of posts lately from others here saying that they got complimentary room upgrades. my question is did you ask for a complimentary room upgrade, if they were available or were you just lucky and was given a room upgrade?

We rented DVC points for a 1 bedroom at AKL and still got upgraded to a Savannah view. This was when Kidani was under refurbishment in December, so an entire floor was not being used. That probably played a factor.

It often does. The official line on upgrades is to do it if it benefits the operational needs of the resort.

If a guest is in a standard room that will be right next to construction and there is an open prefered room then you upgrade them to the prefered room to reduce the possibility of a complaint. They will also move guests to consolidate the housekeeping staff and there are of course times when rooms unexpectedly go out of service for one reason or another. Something like that can not only result in a room upgrade, but a resort upgrade as well. I seen guests that had a standard room at one of the values walked over to OKW or Saratoga because they had the last room, and it went out of service.

I forgot I also turned down an "upgrade?" once. I say that in jest because I was booked at the Poly when it happened. The resort called me about a week or 2 before my arrival and asked if I wanted a free upgrade to the GF since they had overbooked the Poly. I quickly turned the offer down. I didn't see it as an upgrade lol Yes, I am crazy. Crazy about the Poly, that is!
