Room Requests

I know there isn't any guarantee on specific room requests but would the resort try their best to give me the room that I want? I am staying at the Polynesian and I definitely don't want a room facing the parking lot. Should I let my requests known to them or would I just be wasting my time?

They have hooked our family up every single time we have vacationed at Disney. Sometimes all the way down to a specific room number, not just a view. They will give you exactly what you want and do it w/ a smile.

Your very lucky that you have always gotten what you want. We found out that when we didn't ask any requests, we got the BEST room! When we requested a couple of things last year, we only got one request which we were aware of and lucky for us, it was what we would have wanted first. We were at the Poly also. If you request one thing, you will probably get it but if you do multiple, you won't get them all. We wanted connecting rooms close to the Ceremonial House. We got the connecting rooms but we were way over by the TTC. It ended up that we liked it there also because of the quiet and the Monorail to Epcot. It worked out great! We also had the problem that week of CB being closed for renovations so anyone who paid for an upgrade, didn't really have too much of a choice! It was a wonderful trip anyway. Poly for the last three years, we just love it there!

We've had really great luck with getting rooms that we want whenever we've stayed at a Disney Resort. What you have to do is wait until about 5 days before you go, and call the resort itself, to make a request... before that it's in central reservations, and they can make a note of it, but it's better to call the resort itself when they receive the actual reservation. Good luck!!

Calling is good, but I believe that they prefer faxes. That way it is in writing what your request is and it keeps the phone lines free.

Since you feel strongly about what view you have, the best way to guarantee that you have the view you want is to request and pay for a lagoon view room. In regular season, Garden view is $344 and lagoon view is $430. (this is, IMHO, a significant price difference)

Here is a quote from tikiman's excellent site on the Polynesian:

Lagoon View rooms are rooms that are facing the Magic Kingdom or the Seven Seas Lagoon. This does not mean that every lagoon view room has an unobstructed view of the Magic Kingdom and castle. Some are blocked partly by foliage (mostly ground level rooms), tree-tops (mostly 3rd floor rooms) or blocked by Beachcombers Island off the shore of the Polynesian (rooms in Tuvalu). 90% of the lagoon view rooms have great views of the Magic Kingdom.

Garden View rooms are all rooms except lagoon view rooms. Your view in a garden view room could be anything from a partial view of the lagoon, a pool view, a marina view, a view of the garden areas, a monorail view or a parking lot view.

You may get lucky at check-in; many people have. Given the big price difference, you can appreciate that the lagoon upgrade is a really nice thing for a CM to do. There are no guarantees that you would be given that upgrade out of the blue. Your best bet, is to take charge of your own magic and reserve the room you really want.

My impression of the faxed room requests is that they are for variables within your price range, i.e., 1st floor/2nd floor, a specific building, full balcony, close to the pool, far from the pool, etc. I don't think you would get very far requesting something you didn't pay for.

Last year we stayed at Poly and had signed up for a Garden View. When we arrived they offered to move us up to a Marina view for no extra charge. We stayed in Figi, great view of Marina, Space Mountain and the main pool. And extremely short walking distance to the main building and Monorail.

We requested a room close to the main building at Coronado in 99. We stayed in Cabana 9A. 5 minutes walkind distance to Main building and main pool. Quiet pool right out our door and bus stop a very short distance away.

We faxed our room request to the Polynesian 3 dys beore and I got exactly the building I wanted. Make sure its to the attention of the room assignor and be short and specific, nice and not demanding. I asked for the Niuie bldg. because our one ds has asthma and its just too much for him to walk in the humind summer after spending too much time in the parks. It helped him conserve alot of his energy when the monorail, pool and snack shop were a hop, skip and jump away. If you want a good view I also looked at tikimans website. I just wanted a quick convenient location. We really didnt spend too much time in the room anyway. We have also stayed at aeoretora and this is considered a garden view room too. Its refurbished and nice. We had the monorail view. It was close to the marina and too far for him to get to the pool without stopping to rest, but that is a good building too. Good luck.

You can request, but there is no guarantee. They are usually very accomodating though. I requested a specific longhouse when I was there and I got it. I definately recommend Samoa, Niue, or Fiji. They have the best central location in the resort.
