Room number assignments...

I heard that so many people were sending faxes that they really weren't being looked at.
And they aren't in most cases now. Old technology for one thing, time and resource intensive so basically being stopped. The best way is to get it on your reservation and that's what the assigners look at.

Just an update, finally got to do online check in this morning and they did have a spot where you could make up too two request so I did of course, DH loves Conch Key so here's hoping we'll get back there again, it did take 3 days of trying and I had call Disney once and even the CM (who was super super friendly and helpful) said they had heard folks can have a hard time with online check in.

Nope, if you fax it to the resort, it does get read and processed.
While I am not questioning you as I know where you work or at least worked...Is this just a thing that you personally do? Every bit of official training I have had as well as a number of CM's that work the front desk say exactly the opposite.

I also thought that it could vary by resort. I recall seeing info on a site that said that the Wilderness Lodge had stopped accepting faxes as of a certain date.

That is kind of what I thought as well. As far as I know all of the resorts have a fax machine and some CM's will look at guest requests while others will not. However, we have always been told that the official policy was to put them in the circular file.

I don't know if Disney makes it harder on themselves, but every other hotel has computers doing this, for the most part. When the rooms are marked as clean by housekeeping and released, the front desk picks a clean room from the list. If they don't have clean ones, the computer spits out other options.

Maybe Disney actually has people slaving over charts or something, but most places have a computer system that does it for them...and it wouldn't surprise me if Disney did, too. It also wouldn't surprise me if they wasted time and money having people doing it, though. :)
