Room Assignment

Hello, All!
It used to be advised that it would be a wise thing to e-mail your WDW Resort about 24 hours before arrival, to very nicely (please, please, if possible!) remind those doing room assignments of any preferences you have for a room assignment, even though you added it to your reservation previously. We have done this, and always got our request - not sure the reminder was the reason?
We know requests are "noted, but not guaranteed", but wonder if it is still a good thing to do? We plan to do online check-in 60 days out, in any case.

Nope. I don't know why anyone ever suggested that or why people did it.

Years ago, Disney was flooded with these things and finally admitted that they throw them away, so would everyone please stop sending them, lol.

Just call and have your request noted on your reservation. :)

No reason not to do it.
Might not actually get you anything, but certainly can't hurt!

My wife has always noted it on the phone when booking (or has even called later to add room requests like specific numbers, etc.), and then we also try during online check-in, though you're more limited to generic requests there. We were given the option to pick 2 out of 4 "room requests" at online check-in - large balcony, ground floor, woods view, and one other...can't recall. There was also a section called "amenities requests" that wasn't applicable for our resort.

Some people - and WDW fan sites - will say that WDW resorts no longer accept ANY kind of faxed room assignment requests. I know that simply isn't true because each time we go, I fax in a request (sometimes for a specific room, i.e. one my wife and I stayed in on our honeymoon) and it is generally always granted. We don't make our requests outlandish but hopefully as easy to fulfill as possible.

When we have done this before, we faxed it to the resort, and put it to "Attn: Room Assignments".Since room assignments are not made until the day/night before, any sent before that could get lost.
It was even suggested to put the request in a "cute or humorous" way to get the attention of the CM, or relate a sentimental reason, as DisneyJunkie did. Something to give them a smile at the end of a long shift.
As some have said, no harm done!

I hate to say this but you might as well say that you sacrificed a goat before you left and that is why you got your room requests. I know several people that work or have worked the front desks at several of the resorts and have made this inquiry at every on site training that I have ever done. I have been told the same thing every time, faxed requests hit the circular file.

Room requests need to be put on the reservation. That is it. Anything more than that is a waste of your time.

Actually, reservations get sent to the resort from the main reservations system about 4 days before guests arrive, room assignment begins about 3 days before, but can change at any point due to other guests requesting changes, maintenance issues, guests staying longer, cutting their visit short, etc.

I have also asked my friends who are past and current Disney resort CM's, at least 1 spent many years behind a resort front desk as well as working with the room assignment team - faxes are not looked at, they are tossed. Make the request on your reservation, and ask again when you check in. If they haven't already accommodated your request, if they can, they will try.

I know several people that work or have worked the front desks at several of the resorts and have made this inquiry at every on site training that I have ever done. So, are you saying I should take the goat I got back to the farm?
I guess I should before I have to build the pentagram out of stones in my backyard. Don't want to make the neighbors nervous!

I would take the goat back, but go ahead with the pentagram project. I would however reccommend that you add torches as well. I have found that scared neighbors tend to be good neighbors.:D

Not a bad idea. Maybe that would get them to keep their kids out of my landscaping......

Based on my own experience, I know that's not true.

Here is a little experiment for you. Do not put any requests on your reservation whatsoever. Instead fax them in and see if you get them. If that works and your requests are more than something like "ground floor" then you may have something.

Remember kids.... Correlation does not equal causation.
