ROE New Pixel Test

Did anyone else see the ROE new pixel test out in the middle of the Lagoon last night? They had a mock up of some countries and played different types of video on it to see how it compared. The pixels were closer together and a lot brighter and better colors. They did other videos also besides ROE, they did some Mickey Mouse animations and even a Wall-E video. Very cool.

This is good. The globe definitely needs new LED screens. The sooner its done, the better.

EDIT - I'm curious, when was this done? Was it during the show itself, or sometime before/after? Since you saw it, I assume it was visible to all guests. A few more details would be nice.

Oh that's what those fenced-in items were on the islands last night! I was watching ROE from an obscurred view in Germany, so if it was during the show or slightly before/after, I unfortunately missed it. But thank you for mentioning it, as I thought they were reworking the WWIII barges or something!

Awesomeness! Like the others have said, definitely time to replace those screens with LED. Last two times we saw ROE, the screens were atrocious, for one reason or another. That, and the technology got obsolete a LOT faster than expected.

Well, it's been rumored/reported/mostly-confirmed for a while that the Earth Globe was going to be coming out of RoE for an extended refurb, specifically to upgrade the video technology on the globe. The only thing we didn't (and still don't) know is a timeline. So it sounds like they were doing live tests of the technology behind the planned screen replacements. Looks like the refurb might be looming closer.
And to those who missed the prior discussions, a few months ago they ran a test show of RoE without the Earth Globe. It was an edited show that essentially removed the "quiet" section of the show where it moves across the lagoon. They moved key finale fireworks onto other barges, and added a few extra effects to make up for the missing globe and shorter show.

Hmm...I'm wondering if they've decided to put several flat LCD screens out there around the lagoon so they can still show the video?

That's what I was thinking, too. But why just on the islands? If this was their purpose, wouldn't they want them closer to the guests on the FW side of the lagoon, too?

EDIT: Were they just on the islands?

I think you are right. I dont see any resaon why they would test the Earth Barge display technology in this way, that would seem likely to have already been done when this was originally planned.

It sounds like they have been seeing if they could run temporary displays while the barge is down.

Hopefully Mythbuster can fill us in on if this seems likely based on what he saw.

They used a WWIII barge to test the new pixels. They had it set up just like one country, so it wasn't everything just a portion. After ROE was over and they put everything back into the Marina. They tied up the WWIII barge to the center slip, where the Earth Globe is normally. And then ran the video, they had a lot of people in Showcase Plaza watching it and see how it looked from there. It was done normally when they do the Inferno burnoff, but they don't do it anymore.

After the 4th of July show, the Earth Globe will go out for rehab, no exact timeframes yet, depends on the parts and vendors, for maybe 4-6 weeks

Interesting...sounds like they were testing it to get an idea of resolution of the new technology and visibility from the shoreline. Smart move I'd say. This is a wild assumption, but to me, that would mean they have not begun fabricating the new panels for globe. Sounds like they are still working out those last minute issues.
