Rock'n'Roller Coaster *UPDATE* not open today

So that I can cut down on some of the PMs I'm getting about this:

This is totally out of my department and I don't know what's going on. If I get information in the future about what's going on, I may or may not post it. If I do, it will be in a post, not in private messages.

Thanks for the understanding :)

Dude, I totally know how you feel. Sometimes its a burden being in the know.....

Actually, Vekoma has nothing to do with this problem.

Yes, Vekoma did design the coaster itself, but the launching system (LSM) was designed by Siemens.

Problems with the LSM launch system coupled with the blocking system not working properly either... two major problems.

I heard that they are shooting for it opening tuesday or wednesday, but no guarentee.
The block system works fine until the LSM fails. The LSM is the root of the problem. And it's a big problem.

I would agree with the T/W estimation, but just like you said no guarantee at all. Fastpasses were not distributed today and I would expect that to be the norm until it comes back up. Any FPs from the last 2 days were valid at ToT, but not sure if it will be the same tomorrow.

In basic/non-techy terms, the rides LSM(launch system) won't launch? Which means that the ride doesn't move.. considering the only movement in the ride is from the launch(right?). Am I right?(probably not..:ROFLOL:).

Correct. The train at most will coast down the launch tunnel and since it doesn't have enough momentum, fails to go into the first inversion. There are boosters that can move trains throughout the ride (how they leave load/unload), but they don't have enough power to send a limo into an inversion.

Just back from MGM. Rnrc was still closed when I arrived around 7 however when I went back after 8 it was open with a 40 minute wait.

Does this mean that it is open now, because I have gotten lost somewhere in the middle of this thread.
I wasn't at the park this evening, but peter said it was open late. Since this problem reared it's ugly head only after being off for a bit, tomorrow morning will tell if they've found the root of the problem.

Ahhh.... Vekoma, the same folks who brought us Six Flags Over Georgia's Deja Vu, which we always say was so named because "wait, wasn't that thing broken the last time we were here, too?" That thing valleys out (fails to make the loop) every time an ant flatulates.

Uh oh.:lookaroun Pitch in on wand removal and we'll call it even.

So RnRC did re-open after all - that's a surprise I would have never guessed they would eventually figure out what was wrong and repair it...

After reading this thread I thought for sure it was a catastrophic problem that would require re-building the entire thing.

I can also confirm that Coaster was open last night around 8. The wait time said 40 minutes, and they weren't giving fastpasses.

Well just from the sounds of it with people saying the launch is taking longer, it sounds like they found a work around to get the launch system to work for the time being. Hopefully they will be able to get it fixed soon so that the attraction will be running in full working order.

I'll be down there this week and I'm hoping RnRC will be running while I'm there, however if its not at least I will know why.:D

I'm not sure what really happened, but it sounds like a component failure. And typical Disney maintenance nowadays is so worried about saving money, that they don't like to keep spare parts, especailly the high dollar items. They have had one spare, but it didn't work and now they had to order another one form Vekoma and they aren't nearby and they needed it yesterday. So they shipped it overnight and ended up spending 10x as much, instead of just having the parts on hand.

Actually when i was down there in the first of June i asked one of the workers there what was going wrong and he said he didn't know but what was happening when i was down there the ride would go towards the sign and then Aerosmith would come over the speakers and count down 5... 4... 3.. 2... 1... and then nothing would happen we would just sit there and go nowhere and after about five minutes we just took off out of the blue and everyone started screaming because we where not expecting it

I had this happen to me when I was down the last week of April. We sat there through the whole count down speil and nothing happened. After about 20 seconds or so it just took off without any warning. Let's just say there were A LOT more people screaming than normal on that launch! :ROFLOL:

Sigh...
I remember the good old days when they kept enough spare parts on hand to almost build an duplicate ride....
