Rockit Rumors

Not sure if this was posted or not, but there are rumors circulating that UO is having some problems with the lift hill mechanism for HRRR. A permit has been filed for deconstruction of the west end of Rockit. The other rumor is that because of the deconstruction, opening may have been pushed back to at least mid-summer.

Do you have a link to this permit? There's been a lot of discussion about this over on ioacentral without anyone proving anything other than rumors. If they filed a permit, its public info. I'd like to see it.

I was down at Universal on Tuesday for the day. This topic was the talk of the employees. They all said, "I've heard that..." and "Can you believe this!?!"

The City of Orlando sometimes takes a few days to post permits online. Right now, they're showing permits for the week of March 23 where the only thing at Universal is for a $36k roof at the Universal property.

Of course, they might have filed it later and it's just not online yet.

Seems weird though, as the track is pretty much in place except the lift hill and it doesn't seem like too much progressive work is taking place on it!

The permit you speak of was nothing more than an April Fools prank by OrlandoUnited. It was simply an edited version of this permit:

They're not deconstructing this ride, nor do they need to. However, that's not to say there isn't some kind of problem with Rockit. I just wouldn't buy into the severity the rumors are making the problem out to be.

I think this is "much ado about nothing". We have seen other posts in the WDW threads that have stated that crane rental is expensive and it is best to schedule the crane when it can do multiple jobs each time it is on site.

Projects such as these are scheduled to scrape every nickle as hard as possible. (remember, it isn't universal employees actually building this, it is a contractor that wants to make a profit) I could be wrong, but I believe this "the project is in trouble" is just peeps wringing their hands.

Any idea as to how far away they are from opening?

Well, from just walking by and looking at it, one would think they would have to put the track on the lift and main drop and finish up back around the Twister area and be done with construction and onto testing... But who knows. I only build coasters on RCT!

Problem? Yes.
Lift related? Yes.
Bad as the rumors say? Nope.
Delayed? Very likely, but not too bad.

There's still considerable work being done, its just all focused on getting the station together right now.

The ridiculous rumor is that the lift hill was placed in the wrong place. That's just ridiculous. I can believe that something might not be working right with it but to think someone was so stupid as to have placed the hill in the wrong location, that's just the kind of idiocy you only see in state government.

Yep. That's just silly.
I have confirmed with multiple sources that, although the issue causing the current delay is with the lift, is has nothing to do with it's location. It was more of a mechanical issue that, according to two sources, has been figured out and should be resolved very shortly.
