YAWN. I hope these people in charge have done their homework. I was at Downtown Disney last night and it was a ghost town. Workers were standing outside the restaurants with looks like "please come eat here". It was pathetic. Any company that signs on to be a part of this deserves whatever they get.... It takes one trip/walk through to see that no light show is going to bring in crowds to fill eateries...

The Super Bowl was the highest rated television show in US history. Ya' think that might have been where all the people were? Just a thought and, by the way, Disney has done the homework.

So I got an email from CP today.. etc etc.. but at the very end of the email they had a little "update" section on the parks.

[[Hyperion Wharf - Downtown Disney® Area, Walt Disney World Resort
Water and light will be the centerpiece of the new Hyperion Wharf at the Downtown Disney Area, as plans are under way to re-imagine Pleasure Island to a brightly lit waterfront district. In 2008 work began on the Downtown Disney Area to create a multidimensional, one-of-a-kind shopping, dining and entertainment experience for Guests visiting the entire Downtown Disney Area. This redesign will connect the flow of the entire property to create a "One Downtown Disney" experience and make Hyperion Warf a more family-friendly district. The district will feature a relaxing lakeside park with an amphitheater, waterside promenade and enhanced pedestrian walkways. Its diverse eateries will expand dining availability at the Downtown Disney Area by more than 25 percent. The name "Hyperion Wharf" was taken from Hyperion, the Greek god of light, as well as the street on which Walt Disney built his first major animation studio. Construction is currently underway and will continue through early 2013.]]

I hadn't seen this exact wording anywhere (checked Disney Parks Blog), so I found the bolded parts interesting. Has this really been going on since 2008??

And a typo too...

It's a PR lie. Motion was actually used for gay days 2009 by a private party and AC was used in sept 2009 as well. They didn't do anything to actually transform the island until the destruction of motion and RRBC

Wrong.. Paradiso 37 was built not long after the closures of the clubs..

additionally, the other clubs were 'gutted' long ago (see: not long after the closures).. part of the whole project..

and when AC was used in sept of 2009, it was a shell of it's former self.

Just on what it is, I think Paradiso 37 was intended to be there with the club and other adult activities.

If this was the plan all along, then why the huge delay? Disney was planning to fill the island with third party operators based on a pitch coming from Schussler Creative. Just as Disney has become more public on the future of the parks and resorts, Pleasure Island became a secret. And yet that big "secret" is nothing more than making a larger lifestyle center. Methinks nothing is said because nothing is there.

It opened not long after the closure...it had been under construction for at least 2 -3 years before.

The AdvClub was as intact as it was the last night as of Sept. 2009. Nor is there any real evidence its gutting was connected to the development of Hyperion Wharf. For demolition purposes, there was no real need to remove the contents when they did, considering the building remained standing for over a year afterward.

Convention business is down at the DLR too. "Burbank" may want to concentrate on fixing DTD there. I bet they envy WDW's DTD. They have a long way to go to catch up. And that is before HW goes 'live'.

I just returned from spending a week at DLR. DTD in Anaheim is far superior to DTD Orlando/PI. First, it flows much better. It connects the DLR hotels and monorail to DL and DCA, so there is much more foot traffic. Second, its layout is much better. One long set of eateries and retail between the parks and the hotels works much better than DTD, DTD Westside and PI. Easier to navigate. Third, it has a great mix of retail, restaurants and bars, including some open air ones designed to enhance the atmosphere. The third party restaurants run by Landry are excellent and there is definitely more of a buzz at DTD DL than WDW. As I am a frequent WDW guest and only get to DLR every 5 to 10 years, I was admittedly jealous of the vibe and am hoping that DTD DLR is used as a blueprint for Hyperion Wharf.

Paradiso was announced as an addition to PI before its closure was even announced. It was not presented as the new PI(now called HW)

The clubs were gutted so they couldn't be easily reopened. While some electronics went to other areas, I know for a fact they sold pieces of MDP's sound system at property control. Note, however, that Motion, BET, and AC stayed fully functional for a year and Motion wasn't gutted until destruction started. The point being they have not done anything in the last 2 years that was any progress on HW. That's what made so many people mad, me included.

The crap they spew to the news is pathetic. "we're building on the past 2 years of success with the baloon, t-rex, paradiso..." - DTD VP

Baloon - not even on PI
T-rex - open before PI closed and not on PI
Paradiso -announced before PI closing

I'm sorry, what success again? You mean the lame celebrate tonight junk? Pay no attention to the empty buildings! Move along

I hear that the Cirque show at DL and the DisneyQuest at DL are nowhere near as nice as the WDW versions.

We need pictures of the DL version because I have never seen any that fit your description. Not saying it isn't true, I have just never seen what you are describing.

I'm not sure TDO has much say in big projects anymore.

My thoughts exactly! :)

Just reposting that quote because everyday needs to see it and read it, since TDO has never had any say in big projects and they never will, despite what so many of this forum's members think.

After all, the TDO jokes have already gotten waaaaaay too annoying and then some.
