We are debating on which resort to stay at in september 2012. I have previously stayed at CBR (in 1998) and found it very large, are the POFQ and PORS comparable in size? Which of the two PO is better? Any recent renos or any pros and cons that anyone can share? Thanks! BTW this is my DBF first trip to disney and my 4th :)

We love PORS!! We have stayed in both Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Bend and loved each in its own way.

Alligator Bayou is designed to look like a southern bayou in Louisiana. It has lots of shade and deep porches on the buildings. The room furniture is "rustic" with beds made of "logs" and "quilts" for comforters.

Magnolia Bend is designed to look like Old South plantation homes and features gorgeous landscaping and fountains in front of each building. We stayed in Acadian House and although it was the furthest building from the Old Mill (the main building) it was a very short 3 minute walk through some absolutely gorgeous landscaping.

As others have said, the boat to DTD is a relaxing form of transportation and a first night tradition for us. We drive our own car, so I have no opinion on the bus situation at either resort.

I have never stayed at POFQ, but hope to someday when it is just the hubby and I. The over the top Mardi Gras theme does somewhat creep me out...don't like the giant parade heads and alligators everywhere. Also, the food court is much more limited than PORS.

As most others have said, I don't think you will go wrong with either resort. I suggest going to youtube and watching some of the video tours of the resorts done by allears. They will give you an excellent overview of the entire resort and the rooms.

Have fun!!

Within the Moderates, I definitely prefer both Port Orleans properties to the Caribbean Beach Resort. (I've never stayed at Coronado Springs)
And until my actual visit, I thought the French Quarter would be my favorite.
But after a ten night split-stay at both, it was Riverside that I've been dying to go back to ever since. (Alligator Bayou specifically)

We love the Food Court at Riverside, and even if we are not staying there we will go to eat at the Food Court. Also just love Bob in the bar!! What do others think of Bob??:ROFLOL:

Thanks for all the input!! We were leaning towards riverside, but just noticed that the price is now more then FQ. Does that meant he rooms are selling out?We are going the end of september 2012. We may now be leaning towards FQ, booking this weekend :)

I just booked my FQ stay for August/September. The #1 reason we picked FQ is simply the size, it's very small so no matter where your room is you are close to everything. Riverside is just way too spread out for our liking.

I have stayed at FQ but that was long ago when Dixie Landings was still the name of Riverside. But in 2 weeks we will be spending 11 nights in PORS. We selected it mainly because of the theme. It's like a poor man's Grand Floridian.
