How is Disney going to handle this? I assume using boarding groups in the park. Opening day all APs are valid. People have been arriving at DHS between 4 and 5 am with a 7 am opening. How is Disney going to handle the crowds arriving early?
I'm anxious to see some multi-week analysis of how many people are actually getting to go on the darn thing. That boarding group thing is working out pretty well at WDW, at least if you are staying on property and leave your hotel room by 6:00am. Boarding groups are all taken by 7:30 to 8:00am, even before official park opening time. They invested in the same infrastructure and technology in Disneyland's Star Wars Land, so obviously they'll be using it for the Resistance ride in January.
This is going to be a rude wakeup call for the vast majority of AP's who will be arriving between 10:00am and 2:00pm to find that the boarding groups were all taken hours ago and there is no Standby line or alternate way to enter. Not even a DAS card for their rowdy child will work.
And so far, the DHS operation has shown no move away from boarding groups. They have basically created a system where you have to be at the park at sunrise, and then be prepared to return to Star Wars Land within a two hour window sometime later in the day. That's not how SoCal AP's visit Disneyland, and it's going to be a painful process for that big chunk of Disneyland customers.
But for tourists staying in the 25,000 hotel rooms within the Anaheim Resort District, the boarding group process at sunrise each morning will be a really convenient option for them.

The boarding group system keeps people from *****ing and moaning about an impossibly long line, with the nice side effect of (at least temporarily) masking capacity issues.
I hope none of the vloggers get a single boarding pass opening day. Specifically Justin Scared, Adam the too old for a tongue ring, Fresh patchy beard Baked and sidekicks. That boarding group thing is working out pretty well at WDW, at least if you are staying on property and leave your hotel room by 6:00am.
