Pete Seeger passed away yesterday at the age of 94. If you don't know who he was, then you've missed out on an amazing part of American history.

Listened to him all day while trying to drive through that storm and get back to the Midwestern tundra.

R.I.P. He was a legend.

We saw Arlo Guthrie a few weeks ago and he was saying that he and Pete would be singing together,God willing, in NYC on the 4th of July I believe. He had quite a few amusing stories about his father and Pete.

I knew the name, but didn't know who he was, really. I did hear all those songs a lot when I was growing up.

I really love "Where Have All The Flowers Gone."

RIP.

Arlo is a great show. Is he still bringing his kids along on tour?

Pete was an inside joke for my family because of this song...

My great grandmother's name was Irene, and before the boomers in our family took over family events and they weren't are all cold and selfish and about presents and stuff...this was how Christmas was...the adults would drink too much, and us then oblivious kids would go to bed.

And they'd sing her to bed (probably to get her out of the room) to this song.

Somewhere in the last 20 years, the boomers in my family forgot how to live life. Because, doing anything other than making money and being selfish is great, right?

Meh... I'll stop here.

We did used to have lovely family get togethers. We don't now. Blessings to those of you who do.

Just his son Abe was with him when we saw him. I swear Abe and my son have the same hair (!). Funny that you mention "Goodnight Irene". My younger sister's middle name is Irene, and she shares her first name with my mother (Barbara), so my dad always called her BarbIrene, I can remember him singing a slightly modified version of that to her many a night. The Weavers have a special family connection with us too, so we grew up with a lot of their music, although my parents didn't agree with all of their politics back then.

When I hear, "Goodnight, Irene", it is almost always being sung by drunken people or Jimmy Buffet fans...or drunken Jimmy Buffet fans, lol.

It's a great little song. :)

I saw Arlo at Epcot once. (Someone had to make the Disney connection.;))
