RIP Marty Sklar

Everyone in the audience in that first video reacted like Tower of Terror/Guardians of the Galaxy. They initially boo and then they cheer at the end. What's wrong with Disney fans? Look, I realize I'm one of them to a certain extent and I'm not trying to derail this thread, but they're a bunch of loons!

RIP Marty :(

Very sad to hear this. I really enjoyed listening to the stories he shared on different podcasts I listen to and I now consider myself very lucky to have been able to hear him share his experiences a couple weeks ago at the Expo. I was trying to figure out which book to read this weekend, I think I will reread his first book. :(

Looking on the bright side, how nice it must have been for him to be at D23 one last time just 10 days ago, surrounded by adoring fans and longtime friends and coworkers who looked up to him, being celebrated on center stage by the wonderful company he gave his entire adult life to. A reminder for him that he truly made a difference for something important.

We should all be so lucky to pass the way Mr. Sklar just did. May he rest in peace knowing what a successful and meaningful life he had.

Just now heard about Marty's passing, and this is the first spot I went to post some thoughts.
I little bit of a shock as he was JUST at the D23 Expo a couple of weeks ago!

First, I'm saddened.
Marty I know from his key role in helping to make the realization that became EPCOT Center actually happen.
So I immediately thought of that time period when I read the news.
This being the Disneyland Forum is spend my time on, I also immediately thought about Marty's role in helping Uncle Walt open and promote 'the original'.
I'll be tipping my hat as I walk under Mr. Sklar's Main Street Window next month.

Second, I'm smiling through the tears.
I am remembering meeting Marty outside of the Land Pavilion during the fan-initiated 25th Anniversary event for Epcot back in 2007.
He shook my hand, leaned in, and thanked me for kicking WDW Management / Disney in the @** to get going on something to honor the Parks' silver anniversary.
Forever burned into my brain, it was a surreal moment.

The scope of the projects and overall impact this person had within the context of the Disney organization ( both positive and negative ) is unmatched.
Everyone who claims to call themselves a 'Disney Theme Park fan' should be bowing their head in rememberence at this moment.

This got me thinking... why didn't they honor him with the window when he was alive?
