Rings of Power

Can't wait for this one!

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I have to say when I looked for a breakdown of this trailer it sent me down a rabbit-hole of all the anger around this project. Seems every fandom is dominated by those with the time to hate-bomb everything before it even sees the light of day.

Hell hath no fury like a "fan" not fully served.

What are people angry about?

Everything.

I will say that there's now more balance as those who take their time for form an actual opinion have put stuff up. I'd checked for a breakdown the next day and honestly only two out of the first ten videos on youtube were measured and balanced. Posting blind outrage based on preconceptions is just faster it seems. It's both nice to see this isn't just a Disney thing, but also sad. I'm not saying one can't hate on a thing, but there just seems to be an industry at work set to squashing any project out there. Hate apparently is more entertaining. And clickable. And profitable. I don't get it. No one seems to even want to enjoy things anymore. The rage circus has become the leisure activity of choice for many.

Yes I agree that hate has become the norm (except for MCU which always gets a free pass). People complain that things are being made just for profit. Last time I checked, if there was no profit, then things could not be made. At the same time, those who complain about the commercialism of things that are meant to make money are the same ones begging us to "smash" that subscribe button in hopes to get more money themselves.

I'm not a fan of this current trend of taking classic novels and either doing prequels or completely destroying the whole thing to make it more palatable to a modern audience with thin skin.

There a a lot of people upset the lore that Tolkien laid out is not being followed. It’s a legitimate concern that applies to many artistic works.
You should have watched the dreadful new version of 'Around The world In Eighty Days' One of the characters had a sex change and got a new job.

I think people are just using being concerned about "Tolkien lore" as a shield for being mad that the show prominently features women and people of color.

This upcoming show is being branded as "woke" simply because the cast isn't completely white. It's ridiculous.

I say people should wait and actually watch the show before they determine if it's great or if it's awful. But 90% of the criticisms I've seen online stem from people being mad about diverse casting.

I'm holding out hope that it's great but based on the first trailer, my hopes dimmed but there is still hope.

A tempest in my heart :hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious: I mean I know older English is going to come into play but ov vey. Unless the show is going all Shakespeare here. There was another phrase too that I had trouble with. Our hearts are bigger than our feet or something like that.

For the record...I'm not a Tolkien geek so as for showing characters that shouldn't be there or doing what they do...I would have no idea.

The amount of trashing on this show by so-called "Tolkein experts" is absolutely disgusting! None of them have seen it and NONE of them have one single hint of a point about why they are so triggered by it. And if you look and read about those spitting on it, they are all right-wing extremists who seem bothered by the diverse casting the show provides.

I can't wait for this! It will be amazing!

it’s ok so far. not expecting much in the beginning episodes except for introducing characters, etc. hope it pics up the pace eventually.

As a fan of the original trilogy and "kind of" a fan of the hobbit trilogy, so far i've enjoyed the 2 episodes that have aired.

I've learnt not to compare it to Peter Jacksons Rings films any way, and when not comparing and just switching off, I've found it as enjoyable. I think my favourite part has so far been that the dwarfs now seem a little more fleshed out with the inclusion of women. (they don't just spring out of the ground!) :p It's brought about more of a warm touch to a race that always seemed a little standoffish and grumpy.

I've done enough complaining after not getting the ending i so much wanted to see in Game of Thrones, and now I've learnt't that when it comes to TV shows to just "switch off" and not get so tied up with things.

I'm not sure when the series is expected to end. But I think like a lot of people who like to watch big fantasy epics around Christmastime, this'll be one I'll be re-watching again during the Holidays :)

What did you find awful about it?

I know shows have to be set up for the season but I found it to be very slow with too much jumping around and scenes that had no point being there. The dialogue was interesting, like they tried too hard. I thought the second episode was slower than the first (too much time swimming in the ocean). The best part of the second episode was the dwarves.

Galadriel does not come off really well. Like she's supposed to be a leader and wants to leave someone behind.
