Riders of *Size*

My question is something I have been thinking about for a while now. My dh is about 6'2, and just a big guy. I love him that way, but the rest of the world is sort of built for tiny to average size people. We are heading to WDW in 8 weeks and my concern is that there will be rides that we won't know until we get to the front that they are built for little people, LOL.
We went to DL for a few hours last year, and he stays completely away from any rollercoasters, etc. I know he is thinking that a bar won't close around him and he just stays away. I really want him to share in some rides with our daughter. I think in at least Epcot he will be fine with the moving cars, right? This is our first trip to WDW, he's a very quiet guy who would be humiliated if anything (Like the other thread described with POC) happened. I am not a small person by any means, and I forge right ahead on anything I want to go on.
I just wonder if anyone, cast members, have any insight into this.

OK...I'm a "big" guy, just look at my avatar (I'm the one wearing the hat :D ).

I have ridden many attractions at all 4 theme parks & I have not had a problem with anything in WDW.

The worst I dealt with was my knees being "slighty" crushed in Spaceship Earth.

If you have any specific questions or concerns, feel free to PM me. I'm not so embarassed to help.

I also am not tiny and have had the same worries. Have been to WDW 6 times and never had a problem (though I'm not very tall just 5'4")...when we were in Hershey there were attendants at some of the rides with an example of the restraint system. They would quietly ask about yoyr height, weight, etc and then advise you whether or not this ride was "right" for you.(but only if you asked them first...no profiling)

I have never seen anything like this at WDW, but maybe a sign with requirements, etc. might be helpful.

Thanks so much for your help. I was LOL  when I looked at the avatar 1st, then returned to reading "I'm the one with the Hat"
Honestly it looks like my dh has about the same build. Thank you so much, I can breathe a sigh of relief! :D

I agree 100% with what others have said, I'm 6'4 and "not exactly thin"... Only ride I find uncomfortable (But still fun as heck) is Space Mountain, but that has more to do with my height than anything, and isn't overly problematic.

Ok, I can answer this completely. I am about 6'0 tall and weight 360 lbs. I have a 50" waist and carry most of my weight in the middle. The only ride I have ever had an issue with was the astro orbiter. This was very small. Other than that, everything has been a breeze. I would maybe steer away from the tea cups and be careful to sit in the back of space mountain. I think everything else would be fine. Good luck and enjoy. One more tip when riding test track and dinosaur, be sure you have him pull the seatbelt out before he sits down. If you reach in and grab the belt, it will pull out a long way. Then he can reach over and fasten it and then settle in the seat. It makes things much easier and faster for loading.

I agree with everyone else - I've been to the parks with people of size before, and I can't recall ANYONE being unable to ride anything, or even feeling uncomfortable! Don't worry - go and be prepared to have fun!:animwink:

Thanks so much everyone! I was just discussing this with him and 1/2 way through reading some points from a website someone sent me <thanks again> he was asking "Well what did they say about this ride?" He's not the teacup/dumbo ride kind of guy. He was probably worried most about like Test Track, TOT, RnR roller coaster, Splash Mountain, those sort of rides. So, I think he is at ease, as am I. Thanks so much again. This website has really helped in so many ways! :sohappy:

I wouldn't worry too much about the rides. Disney designs them so that practically anyone can ride them without problem.

One thing I will say... he'll be very popular on Tower of Terror! :D

I think you guys should be alright. I have seen quite a few larger folks on many of the traditional WDW rides. Disney is smart and they make provisions for just about everyone. There may be a couple attractions, but for the most part I think you will have a wonderful time.

Disney cast members are usually about as classy as they come and even if there was a problem, I am pretty sure they would handle it right!!

Good luck to you, sorry I couldn't give any specifics.
