Rider switch pass with children.. questions

Hey every one so I watched the new 2014 planning DVD and watched the fun with kids section now I know they have a rider switch pass, How does that work .. question 1) If I don't have a fast pass for lets say TOT does my whole family wait and then pass the child on? Or do you wait in line then the other people get a fast pass? Question 2. If I have a fast pass and the times are 2-3 pm and I go on at 2 pm what happens if I don't get off the ride until 3:01 does the rest of my party loose there passes? I feel like for Soaring I am always waiting at least 20 minutes even in the fast pass line, Hoping some one can clear up these questions? Oh and one more, I seen the height req for the Carousel is 34'' Now my daughter is 9 months and 29 '' So I think by September She'll maybe be 32-33 Can she not ride even though she would have my Husband Or my self with her ? Or even on a bench and not a horse ? THANKS ALL!

The way the Child Swap works is your party including your LO who can't ride goes to the first CM at the ride entrance and asks for a Rider Switch Pass. One person waits with LO while everyone else goes through the line. If you have FP+ they use the FP+ line if not they got standby. When they are done the person who waited along with 3 other people can go through the FP+ line using the Rider Switch pass.

The Rider Switch pass sends you through the FP+ line. Only get the number FP+ you need to send the first group through. Well I never knew that....i.e. that the people who ride the first time (bar 1 person) could actually ride again with the non-rider - effectively 2 rides for queuing once.

I was actually just coming here to post a similar question. Great to find out how this works as we are taking out 19 month DD. Good to know I can take in some rides with my mother who is going for the first time and then be able to take advantage of the ride again with my wife.

The best thing about having a little one and using the ride switch program is that for us my son just turned 5 so even though he wasn't tall enough to go on some ofthe FP rides we had booked, I still booked him so I could go on a ride or 2 myself again or since when we used the swap, essentially would have 1 FP unused so w would swith it to a big rideso I could something like space or splash again...

We're going in October with my wife's family, and we'll have an 11 month old and a 9 month old.
On Disney's website it says that the person who waited can only take one person with them. Has that been changed recently or did it say that when you went but the CM aloud 3 to go with them?

There have been differing reports recently about the number of people who can go through the rider switch pass. It seems they may be changing the rules. You will have to check the pass and see.

They seem to be experimenting with the passes. Some people have posted the passes are no longer good for 3 people only 2. People have also said their passes had a expiration date making it good for a few days.

Maybe they decided to cut down on the potential for abuse. I mean under the current system, you queue once and then up to three of your party get to ride twice. I don't know what scale of use the system gets, but if prevalent I guess it could mess with the size of the lines.

Personally I don't get why any extra people are allowed to ride again anyway. I had always assumed this was the case until reading otherwise on here.

The idea behind it is to ease the issues that come about when a family or group has guests (usually smaller kids) who wish not to ride and need supervision by someone who does wish to ride. When a family wishes to use the system, they notify the CM at the entrance. They issue a Rider Swap Pass to the family. At first, the family splits up, with those who wish to ride waiting Standby or FP+ if they booked it, while the individual not riding and the person supervising them wait outside the exit. When the first group of riders exits, the person who waited with the child at the exit "swaps" with another adult or supervising member who did ride, and experiences the attraction while that person waits at the exit. The key here, and the reason behind the Rider Swap Pass, is it allows the second group with the person who waited with the child to use the FastPass+ line, regardless of if they actually hold at FP+ for that attraction, keeping the family from having to wait twice.

Do people abuse this? Like folks without kids? I guess not since I hadn't really heard about it.
It's nice that they have something like this in place for families, though.

It's kind of hard to abuse because the cms usually need to see a kid that doesn't want to ride who would end up being left "unsupervised" if they didn't go on it. It also is only for rides that have a height requirement.

Another thing I will add, if u select the bigger rides with FP and use the child swap, you eventually have one person in your party that ends up not using their FP for the ride and instead they use the ride swap pass so their band never gets scanned. Instant extra FP for mom or dad or older sibling that's able to ride by themselves if u want!

They have no problem with u using someone else's band to redeem a FP. We did this several times! It worked great for myslef as I was able to get an extr ride on splash, and I also changed one left over FP to space for myself!

It seems to me that the number of riders on the second go-round (when the person who stayed behind the first time gets their chance to ride) should not exceed the number of seats in a "row" of the ride vehicle -- in other words, people who already rode the attraction during the "first go-round" would only get to ride again if there is space that would otherwise be left empty, on an attraction with no single rider line.

So for Big Thunder or Splash Mountain, the number of persons allowed for the "second go-round" would be two (the person who stayed behind to wait with the non-riders, and one other person, to complete the row of seating in their vehicle). For Space Mountain (which has just 1 person per "row" in the ride vehicle) or Rock 'n' Rollercoaster (which has a single rider line), only the person who stayed behind on the first go-round would get to ride. Otherwise it's like giving free Fastpasses to people in the group (and depriving people in standby from taking their place) for no real reason.

I understand why WDW might be experimenting with lowering the number of "re-riders" under this system, especially now that the limits on FP+ will have guests desperately seeking new ways to get "two rides for the price of one" with systems like rider swap. Under the old system, when you could almost always get another FP for the attraction of your choice, there was less motivation to misuse the sytem as a FP "multiplier" instead of a simple accommodation for parents of little ones.)
