Ride reopening process

On some of my recent trips I waited outside of several rides when I saw that the vehicles were testing. One thing I noticed is that almost every time, 5 minutes or less before the ride reopens, a CM would spiel that they didn't know when the ride was going to reopen and encouraging people to leave. I didn't because I could see the ride vehicles moving. One time at Peter Pan almost everyone left after the spiel and the ride reopened just a few minutes later.

They always claim at the entrance that they don't know anything until they are told that the ride is open. Is this true or do they sometimes have an estimate? I thought it was quite a coincidence that they always seemed to do that spiel just a few minutes before the reopening.

Sometimes they’ll give you their best guess, but often times if the ride breaks down, a sensor could get triggered and E-stop the ride yet again. A lot of rides are touchy and take a few test runs to get up and running again. They might say it’s probably going to reopen soon, but it’s protocol to not say anything because guests get disappointed if it’s a bad estimate.

Often times, for an inclement weather closure, the ride might begin testing and then have to close again, so they don’t want to say it’s opening up soon.

They also don’t want a crowd to form, because a lot of guests blindly join crowds just because they think a crowd = something good.

Oh, and by the way, you can get an estimate if you don’t ask specifically for an estimate… here’s what I mean:

Decide how long you’re willing to wait for the ride and ask if it’s likely that the ride will reopen in the next [insert time] minutes.

Say I want to give the ride ten minutes, just ask “Do you think it’s likely that the ride will open in the next ten minutes?”

This is not against their training and they’ll usually tell you whether or not it’s probable. If a Coordinator is there they might give you non verbal cues as an answer.

It is everywhere. They also don't know the answer themselves. Because it is a malfunction error and sometimes it gets fixed in a few minutes or sometimes it takes a lot of time. That is why they think about the people who are waiting for the ride for a long and if it won't fixed people will get sad and also angry and you never know the outcome.

They will never tell you even if they know. I’ve noticed over the years the same thing they will state the ride won’t reopen and then it does normally minutes after the ride vehicles begin moving again. It’s almost like crowd control.
