Ride Closure Experiences

I am looking for opinions on the chances that the new Avatar rides opening next sumer might close for maintenance next September. My feeling is that rides usually don't start going into maintenance until October or so. Is it less likely for new rides?

You never know when rides will go into refurb. Disney can and will close the most popular attractions whenever they see fit. However, your chances might be slightly hurting as its not extremely busy seasons such as Christmas or Summer. But still, I've had BTMRR closed over spring break and Dinosaur closed for a while in the summer. I don't know why they were closed or why they chose the seasons, but it had a reason.

Also, I doubt that such new attractions would go into refurb so recently after closing. So I consider your chances very low, however, like I said, everything lies in the hands of Disney.

A refurb I don't think is likely unless there's a really glaring problem Imagineering somehow didn't notice or something that people really don't like about the ride exploded on social media and Disney is pressured to do a quick fix asap, but new rides typically shut down due to malfunctions very very often during their new period. See: Frozen Ever After as a recent example.

No one can predict how successful an attraction will be after opening, even months afterwards. Theres always some kind of technical issues with new attractions that cause rides to go down, sometimes for brief periods, sometimes extended periods. Cross your fingers, pray, make a wish, hope for the best and youll find out the day you step in line.

I went when Soarin' and some DHS attractions closed. It was fine, as there were still other rides we could do. The only downside of the closures were that some rides had longer waits than normal. For example, Journey Into Imagination with Figment had a 35 minute wait and the line was out the door. Thank god I had a Fastpass for that!

When we have gone to wdw we usually try to go in winter. We try to plan 4-6 mo ahead and try to make sure splash mountain isn't scheduled to be closed. Unfortunately it always seems to end up being closed anyway. So no matter how well you try to plan around a refurb, it may happen anyway.

First they have to open Avatarland. Just hope it'll be open by the time you go.

Splash is an annual refurb. It's closed pretty much the same dates, every year. So if you want to ride it, it'll be your vacation plans that would have to move. Also, most, if not all the water rides (both water parks) are down then too.

We have usually over a two month period but we went once in mid February when it was scheduled to be down all of January it ended up being extended
