I looked to see if this was posted already, and did not see it on any thread....so my apologies if someone has already put the link up

Saw this on CNN.com....

In reading about it, especially the boost that attendance took when the first land opened, I feel saddened that Disney is not matching them step for step. I love WDW, and look forward to coming back, but the last few times I have been I have hungered for something new (and NFL did not do anything for me, sorry) and my next trip I might spend a day or two at Universal. That is something I have not done since 2001. But I really think I might go now.....

every trip except my honeymoon we did that (2 days reserved for universal). i am a disney person through and through, but the change in scenery is often a great turnout. i try really hard not to compare the two places, and though disney will always be my favorite, i have great experiences there.

wwohp turned out great, and im not even a hp fan, the detail matches the quality of disney and the new ride technologies really push the envelope. I can only expect the same if not more with diagon alley, and when i go this november im certainly going to try it.

I'm waiting to find out the Gringott's ride height. They said it will be shorted then Forbidden Journey. As soon as my kids are tall enough for Gringott's we will be at Universal!

I thought it was meant to go upside down 32 times and a real Dragon was going to chase me the entire time shooting fire and such?

Can't wait for it to open,
,!

I'm not a Harry Potter fan, so am sure I missed a lot of the details, but it is a very impressive area. I don't know if more of the same will do them much good ("You can't top pigs with pigs"), but we will see. :)

You should go to Uni. It's just silly to miss out on fun parks because the Disney company doesn't happen to own them.

If Disney ever goes back to basics - pretty, clean parks with well-maintained everything and lots of extras, their parks will be as good as Uni's again. They don't need big, expensive intellectual properties. They just need cool parks. :)

They just need cool parks. :)

I think this is true. My kids were sitting on my lap watching the web presentation. They have heard the name Harry Potter but they are to young for the movies or book. They kept saying "Can we go see that?", "Can we ride that?" The word cool came out of my 4 yo mouth more then once. If Disney can do the same thing with Avatar or any land or ride then the crowds will follow.

There has been a lot of discussion about the length of time it has taken WDW to complete the SDMT and the Fantasyland expansion as a whole. Whatever side of the debate you are on, I think that everyone will be in awe of what Universal Studios has been able to accomplish in less than two years with regards to the new Harry Potter Land. If it is half as good and detailed as it appears, score one for UNI. I feel Disney should be embarrassed with the amount of time it has taken them to complete this project. What do you think?

I think the main mistake isn't the time but the opening of the new land in stages. If they had opened NFL all at once along with the new parade it would be a much bigger deal.

Is anybody actually on the Disney side of debate with respect to timelines? I can't imagine.

I agree this looks great and I am sure I will visit soon. Still if this was being built at Walt Disney World your comment would be something like a D-ticket ride and a bunch of gift shops.

Actually, I've stated that I hope that Avatarland is as good as the concept art makes it look and I'd love to be in that park after dark.

And I've also stated that New Fantasyland looks good, but it's not exactly game changing.

I think there is something to be said for doing things better, faster and cheaper. :)

Disney spends too much on things they don't need and too little on basic, important things. IMO.

I like the longer timeline since I can mentally linger on the glory of the project. It gives me time to savor details. Each new picture posted on a construction wall whets my appetite. Each set of fly over pictures featuring dirt, trailers, and sheds causes the excitement to build and build, as I wait and wait for my desire to be sated. Each empty ride vehicle crawling along the tracks causes me to take off on a flight of fantasy. Oh man, don't even get me started on when the ride vehicle has a sack of concrete in it or a mannequin. When I see rocks being painted I lose my mind. I kind of hope that the mine train doesn't open until 2024.
