Revenge of a new fireworks show for the Magic Kingdom (open brainstorming)

I am currently working on a Disney Resort (details hopefully to come eventually) which has a similar seasonal fireworks show to Disneyland. With Versions of Halloween Screams, and Holiday Wishes at their respective time period, A Show called "Tonight...You'll believe in Magic" which is formatted similar to Wishes in that there are several different segments celebrating different aspects of Disney's magical world, rather then more concrete themes, A Show called "Symphony in the Stars" A show formatted like Magical which focuses on a group of specific disney films, and finally my most unique show which would be the summer show "LEGENDS - An Epic adventure in the Sky"

Legends focuses not on any specific film, but tells of adventure and excitement, and uses moments from TRON, Pirates, The Incredibles, and Disney's Larger Scale less intimate films to create a full fledged experiance that completely surrounds you. Not only would fireworks be launched from behind the castle, but small fireworks would be launched form building rooftops around viewing areas (Main Street Fantasyalnd etc) again to make it more immersive (not large scale fireworks, small shells that wouldn't require blocking any street area off) It would also employ the new projection technology, lasers for the TRON sequence, real fire, and much more live effects to create once again the most immersive experience possible.

I hope this can set you on the path to inspiration.

Okay, a few questions...

Legends doesn't seem to use any familiar songs; what's up with that? Also, what would be an example of "larger scale less intimate films"? What's up with all this interest in Tron? And finally, why not use any concrete themes?

One of the problems with World of Color, is that a lot of people don't understand that it's not supposed to be a concrete story. It really is just designed to take you from one emotional place to another. It's appropriate that the first segment is Ariel's "I want" Song because that's how most Disney Films start. It's appropriate to end with villains and darkness because the battle between good and evil is often at the end of the film, and to then have things work our happily ever after with the princess segment.

With Legends, you're not supposed to be singing along, it's not supposed to be classic Disney magic, it's supposed to be something completely new and never seen before.

So basically, you want a real departure from shows of the past? I have a feeling that if people could not figure out World of Color, then people will probably not be able to figure this show out, either.

At least with RDCT, it shows off things that are familiar to people. And what's wrong with classic Disney magic?

I don't know, I just like to stick to what works. I'm even reconsidering a tribute to Walt Disney in fireworks, after I had been to the Walt Disney Family Museum.

One of the reasons I was considering a tribute to Walt in fireworks, after a trip to the Disney Family Museum, is because one particular gallery in the museum is of special interest to me. It refers to all the different Disney movies released between 1945 and 1955, all depicted on a video ribbon and done in a similar style as the main lobby of the Disney Animation thing at the California Adventure. The movies featured are:

  • The Three Caballeros (1945)
  • Make Mine Music (1946)
  • Song of the South (1946)
  • Fun and Fancy Free (1947)
  • Melody Time (1948)
  • So Dear To My Heart (1949)
  • The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)
  • Cinderella (1950)
  • Treasure Island (1950)
  • Alice In Wonderland (1951)
  • The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men (1952)
  • Peter Pan (1953)
  • The Sword and the Rose (1953)
  • Rob Roy, the Highland Rogue (1954)
  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954)
  • Lady and the Tramp (1955)

So I was trying to incorporate something like that into the fireworks show. It could be the equivalent of the Fantasyland/Critter Country/Mickey's Toontown segment of Remember Dreams Come True.

You know what I'd love to see? A Spectromagic fireworks show. Use the music from the parade and the concept of light.

incorporate beams of light, fire, lasers, projected patterns on fog/steam/smoke and a million magical fireflies above main street.

I don't think that makes a lot of sense.

Use your imagination.

Well, the only thing I could think of is a tribute to Walt Disney, done in fireworks, but everyone keeps insisting that a show like that can't really do justice. So then I thought of doing something like World of Color in fireworks, but everyone insists that it would take away from the Imagineers' alleged claim to make that show unique to the CA Adventure and that fireworks would be a limiting medium to translate a show like that on the East Coast. And I really want to avoid anything generic like "magic" and "dreams".

So what can I do? And please, don't make me do all this all by myself!

A tribute to Walt Disney could totally work - it's an interesting idea to explore for sure but only you know what you are envisioning. Don't let people knock the idea so early.

I can totally envision a Spectromagic fireworks show so it sounds like you might be shutting your imagination off too easy which was my point.

I didn't let them knock it so early, they just seem to have some (legitimate) arguments about how it would work.

And to be perfectly honest, I really don't know what I'm envisioning.

My idea is a different from what they've been doing so try to picture it lol

"Artist In The Clouds" - Huge inflatables in the shape of balloons over the tops of the castle where video is projected (think the balloons on the boats from Fantasmic in DisneySeas but more shapely). The fireworks show would be behind and above the balloons.

And what would the theme of this show be?

A World of Color Fireworks show could semi work.

It couldnt be like 30minutes long but they could project images onto cinderella castle and have the normal launch sites.

Yeah, that could work, but we would have to augment some of the effects since the show is mostly done in water.
