Restaurant not allowing kids 10 and under?

So WDW resort should become more like a Sandals resort? I'm fine with having a couple upscale restaurants adults only after a certain time, but not more than a couple. Disney will always be about families and that includes kids. Many families are dining late with tired kids because with the DDP, reservations are hard to get.
Remember, for many, a WDW vacation is a one shot deal. Many don't have the luxury of waiting until next time to get a perfect reservation time.

If you are going to restrict some restaurants to adults only after 7pm, then you should restrict adults without kids from attending character meals until after 7pm.

Did anyone say Disney should become a sandals resort? No. No one said those words at all. No one wants to change Disney from a family vacation destination. I think restricting some restaurants to adults only is a GREAT IDEA. I know most people would throw out the line "then don't go to a vacation destination aimed at families" but sorry, that won't work on this one. Walt Disney World is NOT JUST for children. It's for adults as well. There are many many restaurants for families there. So having some adult only dining establishments wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I totally understand the desire for some to want to dine sans the children because after a long, hot, loud day out and about, you simply want a quite meal for which you pay a pretty penny. Having said that...I don't think Walt would be too crazy about that. What was Walt's goal for his parks? A place for the ENTIRE family. That includes children of all ages.

Perhaps some of these restaurants could create or designate a specific dining room dedicated to guests where the entire party is 18+ years of age?

Well if Disney & Walt only want entire families to dine - that's fine. I can take my entertainment money and spend it on other trips. San Fran is a beautiful place to visit. New York and Broadway are always a great time. Or if I have the Theme Park itch I'll just go to Uni and spend the money there.

Was Walt's goal a place where you spend $80 a person on a meal only to have it ruined by a screaming child? Doubt it. But then again I guess I wasn't what Walt wanted. I'll wait until I have an ENTIRE family and then maybe according to you I'll be allowed to enjoy the park.

Yes DUUUUUUUUUUUDE! I do! I believe Walt wanted EVERY part of the parks to be family-friendly.

Alright, that's fine. Then we'll ban alchohol and get rid of all the fine dining options because well Walt wanted it that way. Heck, might as well burn Downtown Disney to the ground because there are a few bars there

You're the one that started the slippery slope of EVERY part of the parks to be family-friendly. Some people would argue that having alcohol on site isn't friendly, because some child could see someone drinking.

And downtown Disney does have places that are 21 and over. Heck, I don't think the Cigar Bar that they have there is family friendly. Not going to take little Maggy to pick out a Mickey Mouse Humidor. Not going to take little Tommy to House Of Blues to listen to some Jazz Band and drink scotch. Might as well get rid of Food & Wine Festival too because well - you don't want your son or duaghter to see someone drunk in the world showcase.

Just turn it all into toontown.

They closed the cigar bar I believe, just recently.

The following is just a lighthearted discussion and my views - sometimes hard to tell on these forums.

Sandals resorts are not just for adults, but they are adult orientated. Adults can have fun at Disney, but it is family orientated which means you are going to find kids everywhere and limited adult only entertainment. Now we both know adults can have fun at WDW, but if I poll 100 adults about fun vacation spots for adults, we'd be the only two who would say WDW.:) I'm guessing Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Napa Valley would top the list. Kids can have fun at these places also, but they are geared towards adults - remember when Vegas tried it's family friendly ad campaign and now they're back to "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?"

I'm not opposed to adult nightlife in Disney. Hey, I look for it. A few years back, my brother and I convinced the resort bartender to let us drinks some beers and such as he closed down and did some cleaning. His usual last call was 11:30. He said the resort bars close before midnight so mom won't yell at Disney for ruining the family vacation by letting dad stay out all night drinking. We left the bar a little after 1 am and I did get that look the next morning as I was moving slow to our early ADR. :hungover:

But I believe part of the Disney magic is in their restaurants. They allow average theme park goers to experience international cuisine or upscale food (a foodie would probably debate this) in a very relaxed atmosphere (V&A is the exception, but they don't allow DDP or now TiW). Hence the typical dress code and the fact that most of the year anymore it's included in a package. Now would I take my kids out to a upscale local restaurant at 8pm on a Friday night, no. But, I would at Disney, because it's Disney.

If Disney thought they could make more money by having more adult only restaurants, I'm sure they would do it. However, WDW can't be everything to everyone, Vegas tried and failed. WDW resort is a family orientated destination, thus very limited adult only venues.

Enforce it they do! A man arrived after us not wearing a jacket, and one of the maids swept over to a closet where they had spares...they tried a few on him before getting the correct size. Why would one NOT research the dress code for their $125+ meal beforehand?!

Just another point of view. We at at Remy on the Dream (a similar experience to V&A), and although I brought my own suit, I wished I would have borrowed a jacket for the 2 hours I wore mine. It would saved me a lot of room and hassle!

The V&A dress code says men must have a jacket. They were discreet about it but I was still surprised.

According to the site, SOSA Family Cigars is still there. But the site could be out of date or in the process of changing.

I hear you - cause the garment bag always takes up too much room

Enjoy V&A on your next trip.

Thanks, I will.

Enjoy little Suzzy Q. screaming at the top of her lungs while throwing her chicken tenders across the place all the while the parents twiddle their thumbs and just go "well what can we do....she's a free spirit and it's vacation after all"
