I seriously doubt anyone will say anything, especially if you use Disney Transport to get to the resort (then you don't have to talk to Disney security).
The only resort I can think of that might not let you visit is SOG, since it is a military resort. Does anyone else know if you have to have your DoD id to go explore it?
I normally resort on my final day, since it's normally a half day. I love seeing them since they are all so different. And since I can't afford to stay at deluxes all that often, it gives me a chance to experience those ones.
Of course, the monorail resorts are easy to check out without anyone asking you any questions! No one has ever stopped me at security at any of the other resorts, either, but to be honest, I have never driven over to Shades of Green. If you're really curious, why not ride a Disney bus over?
You won't have any problems visiting the resorts using Disney Transportation (monorails and buses). I can't speak for if you are driving, but if you tell the guard that you are there to eat or shop, you probably won't have a problem.
a few weeks ago when we were there, we drove to a lot of places and all you have to do is tell the guard that you have dining reservations and they will let you in. have a great trip
You will have no problem visiting any of the resorts... except SOG.
We had always seen the signs for SOG so on this last trip, we drove over there to see if we could tour it. The security guy at the gate wasn't very cooperative but he finally did give us a pass so that we could drive past the resort and by the golf club. We told him we just wanted to see it, but it was like he'd never had anyone ask to tour it before..
We didn't go inside, just drove past the entrance and had a quick look. Nice enough looking hotel that sits on a golf course...the entrance has palm trees and waterfall in front if I remember correctly.
The WDW resorts are amazing. The more you can see, the better (as long as you don't lose too much park time). You'll probably find a new place to stay or eat in the process.
We love to resort hop. Leaving the AK the past April we decided to jump on the first resort bus that we saw and go have something to eat there. It happened to be the WL. What a beautiful place! No matter where we stay, we always visit the Poly since it was our first "on property" resort back in 1993. Leave a park and jump on a bus, or better yet, when leaving the MK at night and looking for a bite to eat, head to the Contemporary Food and Fun Center. We've not had a problem visiting other resorts either by car or by WDW transportation.
Overall, it's fine, just not after dark or before the sun comes up. The common areas and hallways at several resorts goto key-only entry during this time.
If you stick to public areas you'll be fine. Most resort hallways themselves aren't very interesting at all anyways, the exception being AKL with all the windows to the savannahs.
Last year we were there during the Christmas Season and spent one day just sightseeing the decorations at the various resorts and didn't have any problems or anyone questioning us.
The only time I can see a problem is at the pool area, where there are some pools where they don't allow pool hopping and they may question you there, but I bet if you tell them you are just checking it out and not going to use it you would be alright.
