Resort Security

We just finished a day at WDW going between the various resorts etc. I didn't realize that they had installed security at all of the entrances to the monorails. It was pretty thorough as well. Every single bag was checked quite extensively. It wasn't too busy for the most part but at one point I saw a long line reaching into the 2nd floor of the Polynesian of people waiting to be checked.

When did this start? Everything looks pretty permanent to me so I guess this is the way of the future. On one hand kind of sad as it does intrude on the "magic" however I suppose it is a necessary evil to make sure nothing terrible happens. Any other comments or insight?

Makes getting into MK easier. Pain in the butt when you just want to resort hop.

Now that there are security checks at the monorail stops, what about the resort boat launches? Is there security at those or when people disembark do they go through security with the bus stop guests?

Anyone resort hopped recently? A while back, someone asked about shopping at a monorail resort and then riding it back to another resort or TTC. If you have beer or wine with you when going through the security checks, what happens? Just out of curiosity lol!

Last week on our weekly MK visit the Monorail broke down while we were on it. We then took the launch to the MK and had to stand in the very long security line. It still moved fairly fast, although I do wish they could find a way for two lines coming off the boat launches. During July and August, I imagine that is going to be far worse. That being said, it is still a lot nicer having the front of the MK looking more the way it did 20 years ago.

As far as beer and wine while resort hopping, I can't imagine them saying anything about that.

I can understand why they are doing this. Around the world, there have been many bombings of trains. Imagine that happening on the monorail at one of the resort terminals. This is why Disney World is on a top list of non-gov't terror lists. The shock value alone.

What about people that drive to a resort? We never do but I'm just curious. We will be back tomorrow and I'm thinking the only resort hopping we will be doing is when we go from BLT to Poly to eat at Ohana but what if people wanted to drive from BLT to say WL to eat at say Artist's Point or something? Would they go through metal detectors on the way in to the resort or is it only if you're using Disney transportation on an outgoing basis that you have to go through the metal detectors? I do think it's gonna be lame going through detectors at BLT to go to Poly and then through them again to get back to BLT from Poly. Also I hope it doesn't clog the sidewalk from BLT because we always walk back and forth to MK and it's way quicker. Hopefully this doesn't cause too much of an annoyance.

I'm curious to hear about any backup that might have occurred on the walk from BLT to the MK. If you are taking the Monorail from the Contemporary you will indeed have to go through security at both the Contemporary and the Poly.
