Does anyone know if they are releasing new resort mugs for the holidays or are they the same mugs they had earlier in the year? For anyone wondering, no we are not planning to reuse our mugs on this visit just curious if to know if there are new ones or the same.

Interesting that there is a chip under your handle, but I think that the RFID tags are part of a sticker that get's placed on the bottom of the mug. Not sure what the chip you're seeing is related to. It could be just a regular piece of the cup though. This is what the RFID chip is supposed to look like under the plain white square sticker. It's just like the RFID security tags placed inside CD and DVD cases these days.
There's no sticker on the bottom. Here's a somewhat decent pic of what I think is the rfid beneath the handle...

They usually sell Holiday mugs at a few locations in park. In the past I think I saw them at Cosmic Rays, last Dec trip I got a Christmas one from one of the carts on the hub filled with hot cocoa. The resorts may carry the actual ceramic holiday mugs, but not the plastic ones.

I've seen that before on other things. It has something to do with the manufacturing process of the product. That's not the RFID. :) The RFID is under the white sticker on the mug. If it has no sticker then it does not have RFID. I suppose Disney could have paid for the manufacturing company to incorporate the tags inside the housing of the cup but I doubt it. And that thing you see under your handle is a 4 square by 4 square computer identifier that is printed on the cup in an "out of the way" location during the process of making the cup.

That may be related, but it looks to me like where they would align the colors up for printing. Normally you wouldn't see it as it would be hidden by the handle, but the translucent color doesn't hide it very well.

Now that we are slowly drifting off topic, I think they would have the manufacture install it. It adds to the durability of the chip. I can see the stickers getting destroyed on some of the concrete flooring around the pools, or heck even little kids peeling them off when they are bored. And if they do end up switching to a model where you can bring an old mug and just re-up the time on the chip, it would make sense to have inside. Also, attaching them offsite eliminates the odds of a CM sticking the stickers on mugs they shouldn't, people stealing stickers, CMs forgetting to stick them on a mug as they sell it, etc.

Yes. Clamman73 posted a photo of the chip embedded into the cup housing. :) I figured that Disney would save as much money on this as they could by having a CM sit in a back room slapping stickers on the bottoms of the cups. LOL But instead they went with having the manufacturer add the cip inside the cup. I supose for the reasons you gave. I had not thought of the concrete at the pools and such. I thought that it would be a denser plastic sticker over the chip to prevent water damage but you're right, there are other issues that could result in a damaged chip.

WHen I was going around to each resort back in October, one of the cast members said the demand for resort merchandise has been asked about so many times. She also said you should see resort specific merchandise back soon.

Well I hope thats true, my favorite mug, which is well worn now, are my wilderness lodge ones from the '90's.

as a DVC member i havent seen resort specific items there for several years, its a shame!

OKW had a number of new resort specific items this past week. They created a new logo and had shirts, mugs, shotglasses, keychains, and more.
