Firstly, I do post on the Disboards, but I got sucked in through their Cake Chatter...so that's the big reason I go over there. While many people on here ask "how" when it comes to fancy WDW cakes, a lot of people over there ask "what." So, I will often pop in over there to give people cake design ideas if I can help. I will often play around in the restaurant area and post a little after giving cake suggestions. If you see me over there, I'm TiggerTrigger.

Still, I MUCH prefer the conversation over here. Disboards is a forum whereas WDWMagic is a community :) I also would agree that things are not as friendly over there. And it is correct that the mods get pretty nasty if there's any back talk or disagreement. There's actually one member I've dubbed "THE HAG" b/c that's just what she is. She's a nasty troll with nearly 13K posts. She had the nerve to suggest my children had some kind of mental defect because they believed the characters and effects were real...happened about a year ago...and as a result, I no longer post in any section on the DIS except for the restaurants area. Life is too short to have to voluntarily deal with hags. ;)
You mean they're not!!!! OMG!!!! I mean, if they are not real then why would we need autograph books, duh!

Wasn't even aware there were other forums haha! I like it here. Just a thought though, I do have trouble with the acronyms sometimes & have no idea what a lot of them mean as I am quite new so if anyone could tell me what "DH" or "DS" stand for that would be a start. Thanks x
Dear husband. Dear son. If there are others you are having problems figuring out check out the Help board. There is a thread there titled abbreviations that I have found very helpful:)

I think it's a very welcoming place. And a fun one.

I also like getting to "know" people by reading their posts. I know who will tell someone to go to hell, who will support Disney no matter what (and call other people names if they don't, lol), who will misunderstand something and get all worked up over nothing, who will say things that aren't true and then go back and delete them when they know they were wrong (lol), who is going to say something funny, who will be uber-supportive, etc.

It's all kind of fascinating, in a boring kind of way.

As soon as I see the avatars, I kind of get ready for the post. Sometimes people surprise me. There is always more to learn, though. And that is always good. :)

It also kills time, which is the best part for me, because I have a lot of time to kill. :)

I have been on this forum for years now. I am not much of a posting person, more of a reading person. I am addicted to this forum, reading how everyone "knows" each other. Wonderful way of passing time when there is nothing on television.
Funny you should say that ... addicted...my DH just asked me yesterday if this forum was an addiction...yet he loves all the info I'm passing on to him.

Exactly :D Still, I just couldn't believe someone who was a supposed Disney fan was not just a buzz kill, but offensive in her thoughts on the matter. It made me sad to think that even as an adult, she's never discussed dinglehoppers with Ariel or tried to get Donald into angry bird mode. Oh well.

I know exactly who you are referring to. She's actually a mod.

Why don't you post here in the restaurant section? We'd prefer to have you here anyway. :D

Awww, thanks! :)

I don't know. This one likes to post in the family section. If she is a mod, she's taken a lot of back talk from me without dishing any true punishment. There may be multiple hags!!!!! All the more reason to limit my time there. ;)lip

I have thought about creating our own cake chatter type thread on here... I'd just feel kind of bad since most of the nuts and bolts info would be "borrowed" from their cake guru. She's also super sweet and helpful - hence the guilt. On the flipside...I've seen a lot of cake questions on here of late. Maybe I'll put it to a vote over on the restaurant section. :)

LOL, I don't discuss anything with the characters unless they start it. I'm not sad. It just isn't me. :)

Your girls don't look defective to me. Enjoy it while they're little! They grow out of that so quickly!

True...I know a good number of WDW loving adults who don't engage the characters like this. I just felt like I'd been slapped in the face sinwith this person's reply on the girls. Oh well...I really have to learn not to dwell on such things ;)

I'm with cowboibabyy.....I'm very calm and quiet in my everyday life, so I don't post very often. I recently started posting more, so I could become an "active member" instead of just a "member" ! Next goal...."well known member"!

Here I thought that they meant "Disney Husband" and "Disney Son". "Dear" sounds a lot nicer. Sheesh.

I prefer this to the DISboards. I think the main reason is the layout of the forums and how they label things. Seems really discombobulated to me.

I went over there to see if I could find @HouCuseChickie 's "the hag", lol, but I couldn't.

I think this site is sleeker and neater.

I love that there are so many people who know much more than I do. I've learned a lot about Disney (and the Disney community, lol) by reading News and Rumors. And if you can't get a questioned answered here, it can't be answered.

This site is reliable. It keeps its info up to date. The dis boards actually use this site to get their info. Someone posted a thread here about something they read there...and the info they saw there had actually been obtained here, lol. This is the "smarter" site (for lack of a better word.)

It's also the funniest site around. I find myself hitting the like button so often just because I think the posts are amusing. :D

And I do think that this site is nicer. I've only been called an idiot once and I received an apology for it, lol. It blew over. No grudges. :)

I may not be exactly a veteran of this forum but I have to say, I was looking for a decent forum to discuss Disney and all other things and I think what swayed me to join this forum over DisBoards first was the layout and threads. It just didn't scream Disney to me. I felt DisBoards was too clustered and too large. A lot of info but nothing else really.

But after reading some of the horror stories people experienced on Disboards, I knew I made the right choice of which to join first and don't expect me to join DisBoards anytime soon. I am appalled people and even moderators would act so childish when it was completely uncalled for. Mods need to enforce what is taboo on the forums but not make it a personal attack on anymore. At the same time, they need be welcoming, kind and insightful to everyone who make the forum what it's supposed to be. In other words, be firm but fair basically and by the looks of it, the mods over there weren't exactly doing a good job of that.

Anyway, I get real sense of community around here and I'm really glad I found this forum. Everyone here is professional, courteous and kind to each other. There are disagreements but it's never personal, at least what I've seen so far and I hope it stays that way.
