Resort Airline Check In Service testing a return

I think BrightLine also play a role in this testing. Disney and Mears believe a family of four would rather get a free transportation to Disney than have BrightLine keep a charge $30 per person ($60 round trip) just get travel to Disney Springs from MCO terminal C
I don't think that has any impact. Brightline and mears already have deals together, and the tampa/Disney springs train seems dead at this point. It would require federal grants that aren't gonna happen in this administration.

Maybe it'll be open by 2035 at best, but Disney will have brought back and budget cut magical express four times by then...

I skimmed Tom’s article. I rarely have the attention span to read all the way through his articles 🤣 I’m very surprised he mentioned Mears buses never being full and even being picked up by vans. I’ve used them 3 times in the last few years and the buses are always packed. Both to and from the airport. And it seems no matter where I stay, I’m always the last stop 🤪

Brightline really was never a reasonable replacement for DME either. The logistics of getting off the plane to get a scheduled train an hour later or more and then to be dropped off at Disney Springs. Not very helpful for most families IMO.

If my memory is correct, this already exists. They transfer bags between main terminals and C for connections. I believe there's a peoplemover of sorts for bags under the peoplemover for people. And it's seriously over-built to plan for anticipated future capacity of a significantly larger C.

Of course it's hindsight, but looking back It seems reasonable that they could have planned to prioritize the baggage system and get it operational before the terminal - maybe in 2021 at some point. It seems reasonable that they could have moved baggage screening operations over there for 6 months while they rebuilt screening facilities in A/B without a massive additional cost.

Now if you want to talk about hindsight - imagine if they'd built out 20 more gates in C and could move another airline or two out there to take down a whole airside at a time for refurb now...
I don’t believe there are any connections between A/B and C. There is no air side connection for passengers. Checking the airport website also doesn’t show any airlines operating out of A/B and C. If there is any sort of baggage connection it is of extremely limited capacity.

The big advantage at Terminal C is its use of RFID bins and its closer proximity to the gates. At a minimum, you’re greatly increasing transit times down to C. You’d also really want luggage into this bins as quickly as possible, which building those system in A and B.

As airline check in was not exactly a feature of Magical Express, I don't see much reason to connect this with some greater return of things lost. All this perk of staying on properly cost Disney was space at their resorts. If the trucks that hauled luggage around are still available and the curbside check in staff can be found, there is no reason for this to not be back. It was far more welcome for our family than the bus ride provided by the Express. Ironic that it is beginning with Southwest as I believe they were one of the last airlines to be included in the original service.
Since southwest is getting massive heat for charging for bags and seats - the very last reason to go for ever booking them - I wonder if they’re throwing a little sugar into this game to take some stench off?

What exactly are they grasping at??
Suggesting that airline checkin is a “bigger” benefit than the shuttle every butt in from OIA with no added cost

I know it’s April 1st…but it shouldn’t be this easy.

What’s next? Celebration of waterparks being open? Since every single person has been paying for their subsidized cost in EVERY ticket sold - without access to one of them at all times - for the last 5 years?

Adults can grasp the differences. Do
Better.

Please don’t be so upset. Not everyone cares about the cost to the company or the future of the company.

Interesting. I could have sworn they offered baggage transfer between terminals.

So if other airlines are going to be in on this service, because you check in Southwest via the app to get a good seat and get your boarding pass then, with other airlines will we be able to get a boarding pass when we check our bags?

Honest question: don’t most people check in on their phones now?
I usually fly Southwest and yes to get a good seat you check in using the app on your phone. I have never done that with other airlines. I like having a paper boarding pass in case my phone loses charge. I have read of people getting to the gate only to find their phone is dead.

Well there are good “fans” and bad “fans”…for sure

Beyond just Disney…there has become a way too prevelant “what do I care what happens after I die?” Sentiment that is put on display.

I don’t think prior generations ran through machine gun fire on beaches to allow that…but I tend to be an optimist 😎

You hold Disney in much too high regard.

That would double our fare. We usually get $30-ish specials from Fort Lauderdale. I’m guessing there will be specials available on the second leg.

Again, guessing: I’d bet they’d be a lot more frequent on that small section of track.

I usually fly cheapo Spirit (and pray lol.) When I drop off my bag at the airport, I get a printed pass.

We’ve flown SWA exclusively for as long as I can remember; have had the companion pass for years now. In recent years I’ve been shocked at how much comparatively cheaper other better airlines flights are. After I burn through the last of my miles and flight credits in a few months, we’re going to be free agents.

Yes, you should be able to get a printed boarding pass. They can do anything the counter does at the airport.

We are using our points, cancelling our decade old SW rewards credit card and moving on.

When you say you fly Spirit, do they at least give you free checked bags since you’re the pilot? Hopefully they don’t weigh you like Frontier…

I often check in on my phone but will print out a boarding pass (whether at home or at my hotel or at the airport, etc). I much prefer having the paper boarding pass especially traveling with a family so that everyone can have their own instead of having to swipe the phone at the gate.

Same with us. Not to derail the thread too much but we’ve been loyal SW flyers for about 10 years. When the most recent round of flights was released last week, I was very surprised that JetBlue was actually cheaper for our dates. Purchased our flight to Disney with SW so I could use up some credits but we are flying JetBlue home. Definitely considering getting rid of our SW card and investing in someone else.

The only thing that keeps me considering SWA is it’s the only carrier that flies direct to MCO. But with the upheaval at the parks over the next few years not sure how often we’ll be traveling there.
