Reservations question

I am planning a trip with my brother's family in April It is being complicated by 2 of his children not knowing if they are going to be able to come along. (difficult classes at school and if there is a practical exam that week, they cannot miss it-no options I'm told).

So if i make general reservations for all of us (7)- and 2 don't show I know that's not a problem, my question is about pre-paid dining. We plan to do hoop-de-doo, Cinderella's royal table, MK Fireworks dessert party, Fantasmic dining package and Rivers of Light dining packages. I think these are all pre-paids but I'm not sure.

First, I know that if they don't come and I need to change this, that I need to completely cancel the reservation and re-book. I don't think I'd be able to re-book them, they're obviously hard to get ones but I also don't want to pay for expensive dining that the kids don't attend.

I just tried a dummy run on their website getting a reservation for a meal with 5 people and a separate meal for 2 at the same time and it won't let me, so this plan didn't work.

Does anyone know for sure if I show up with fewer people if it will not be refunded? Does anyone know if hopefully Disney has changed and I can delete folks from a reservation? Any other ideas?

thanks guys, you always come through for me!

Fantasmic and Rivers of Light dining packages are not pre-paid.
We have never had an issue with showing up for an ADR with fewer guests. As long as you show up you will not incur any cancellation fee for the members of your party who don't. For example we say, "We're a party of three today instead of four."
I cannot confirm for pre-paid meals for Hoop Dee Doo, CRT or the dessert party. The party may be non-refundable but the other two you may be able to get refunded.

When it comes to regular dining reservations that just need to be secured with a card, no shows are not a problem. For pre-paid dining reservations, the reservations must be changed outside of the cancellation period which I think is 24 hours (@DisneyJoe)

I have not had to do it myself, but it is my understanding that removing people by calling Disney Dining is not too difficult. Adding people can be.

Wow, thanks Master Yoda, I thought it had to be canceled and re-booked which just won't happen. But if you can change numbers that would be ideal

Thanks for taking the time to help me - very much appreciated!

Just call as soon as you know they won't be going. We had to remove 1 person form our CRT reservation 2 years ago. I just called and they took him off the reservation and refunded our money with no issues.

This exactly. We always book for as many people as *might* be attending (my cousin in Florida sometimes joins us but never knows until well within the 180 day window) and then remove people if plans change or fall through. I have never had an issue removing people but adding people may be impossible if the restaurant is at capacity.

A few trips ago, my mother had to stay back in the room and missed our CRT meal. At CRT check in, I told them we were 5 instead of 6 and they issued a refund on a Disney gift card (which was fully spent by the time we were leaving the park). Another trip one of the party had to return home after the second day, so for all remaining meals we showed up one short, without any issues.
