Reservations needed for Resort Dining in Sept?

I know it is freebie dining and so a lot of the restaurants get booked up. I have a reservation at Chefs de France already, but my wife is not too keen on having too many reservations in place, and wants to be a bit more flexible.
That said, are the resort restaurants less likley to require a reservation this time of year? For instance if I wanted Ohana or Boma would I need a reservation, or could I call before heading over have a pretty good chance of landing a table for 2?

I would suggest calling and getting PS for as many restaurants as possible. At minimum you can cancel when you get there, but you're at least guaranteed a shot at getting into popular places you want to try like Ohana.

Since it's free dining during your trip, you might actually find that PS's have been filled already for most places. It might be worth it for you to just call WDW Dining and see what they still have available for the times of your trip.

You will be at the beginning of the somewhat annual free dinning promotion which will make all TS dining somewhat hard to come by. The resorts are typically not as busy as the park restaurants, breakfast and lunch even more so, but with a good portion of WDW's resort guests eating at 1 TS restaurant per day even the resort restaurants fill up quick. Bottom line if you want to eat TS you will need to book ahead of time otherwise you stand the risk of not being able to get in anywhere.

last year during Free Dining, they basically ran out of table space for people on the DDP. So they had to offer a trade to allow people to eat CS with their TS credits...they'd give you some small item like a pin lanyard to help compensate for the difference in value.

So bottom line, get the reservations now for what you can. You can always cancel them day-by-day when you're there.

That's the only downside to the free DDP - it takes away some of the flexibility you have when it comes to eating. But in my opinion, it's a small trade-off for being able to eat at some great restaurants for free!!

We are going again next month for the free dining. We book our dinners months in advance. Even with advance booking, we found it difficult to get into some restaurants. Even though parks are not too crowded, everyone is wanting to book meals around the same time and at the same places. Out of our 8 nights, we have 3 evening reservations, one at 3:30 and two at 4:30. We would like them later.....but I have been calling for 3 months now and have not been able to change times. I can forfiet my table or keep times. So my advice to you is........ book your dinners.

For dinner you'd be lucky to get Boma or Ohana now, free dining or not. Start calling! Spontaneity died with the Dining Plan. :shrug:
