Reputation Power

I have seen on another forum that uses vbulletin, underneath a users name where there is the location and post count, a bit saying "reputation power", is it possible to view peoples reputation power on here? I think it would be interesting to see. :wave:

That would be interesting to see, because I've noticed they span a wide range. Today I got one that was worth one point, and then one that was worth FOURTEEN points. Thank goodness that one was a positive :p

I knew what my points were before I received it, and then what they were after. So I was able to tell how much that particular rep was worth

Ahhh... that must be this thing called Math I keep hearing about. :drevil:

Here's something. I've noticed a jump in points here and there without anybody adding to my reputation...not by a lot, just like 2 at a time. Does anybody know what that's all about? :veryconfu

My guess would be that the more little green boxes the more points awarded.
I have no idea what I add but I like being anonymous. :D :wave:

Well you can basically find out the ranking of people, but you can't see their points. Just click on Member List and then click on Reputations and then it will rank all the users based on their reputation points. I'm SO close to getting up there with the big boys :lol: .

I've been trying to figure this out too, I've been anxiously awaiting to hit 100 points, but it appears that when I get positive points, it only goes up one or two. And then I get those random negative ones that doesn't have a message or user name on it and it goes down like 5-10 or so. I post nothing but positive on here, yet the negative always come at me for no reason whatsoever. I would like to know how points are awarded, too.

Now I'll sit back and watch the negative points come in on this thread too. :lol:

It's either that, or it's based on how long the person has been a member.

It's not based on member length. It is based on reputation points given from other memebers. The higher number of points a person has, the higher number of points that person gives to another.

Ahh. That makes sense, although I wonder how I got such a huge jump early on before anybody had really racked up any points yet :veryconfu Who ever it was carried a lot of weight almost right away! so I assumed it had been a long-standing member.

* Register Date Factor
The number of reputation points that a user is able to give or take is dependant on several factors, with the length they have been registered as one of them. A user's power is first initialized at 1 and then this factor and the factors that follow are used to increase it. For example if you set this to 365, every 365 days that the user has been a member of your forum, they would gain one point. So if they have been a member for five years, they would gain 5 points of power for a total of 6.

* Post Count Factor
The amount of posts that a user has can also affect their reputation power. Set this to number of posts that you want to award one point for. For example, set this to 50 and for a user with 500 posts, they would gain 10 points of power.

* Reputation Point Factor
The users current reputation score can also affect their reputation power. Set this to 100 and a user with a reputation of 1000 would gain 10 points of reputation power. If you set any of the power factors to 0, that will effectively remove that factor from having an effect on the user's reputation power.

...so I don't think it is only your reputation that counts! :)

Steve, is there any way you could put our reputation power underneath our usernames? (ie. underneath posts) :) I've seen it on some other vbulletin boards and I think it would be good here. (Although saying that there's probably some good reason why we don't have that here!).

Thanks Ogryn, that's some useful information. I could never figure out how, with just one negative, my reputation could drop 8 points.
