Last time at BCV I counted 10 large towels during a quick count. I might have missed some. I forgot to check on the hand towels and wash cloths though.
Great! Thanks for this info...I'm a gal that needs a towel for my hair and one to dry the rest of me and want to make sure there's enough for the rest of us if I do that :p

I am too lol! I've never had too few towels. Now blankets I have, but fortunately never towels. I remember seeing 4 in each bathroom plus at least 2 by the tub. Remember you can ask for more but you might get a small charge for them.

You could also bring a few extras back from the pool...

Ugh no - please don't. They're for the pool. But mostly they are no where near as nice as the ones in the room. Kind of scratchy on the skin. I almost wish I could take my room ones to the pool!

My count is similar. When we stayed at VWL in a 2-bedroom villa (as a party of 6), the villa was stocked with at least 8 complete sets of bath towels/washcloths (2 sets above the master bathroom tub, 2 sets in the shower area of the master bath, and 4 sets in the secondary bedroom), plus bathmats, face towels, etc.

LOL--if we get desperate, the teenage DS may end up with this :p But it sounds as if we should be ok, plus we have the W/D for doing some laundry! Currently we're booked with 7 but am desperately hoping that the "7th" (friend of DS) will not come. Just thinking of ride logistics like TT--car seats 6 perfectly!! Ah, but it's just my crazy-mom side coming out, not wanting to deal with 3 teen boys :arghh::arghh::hilarious::hilarious:

I recently secured a stay through DVC Rental Store for a studio at the Poly at the beginning of October. I chose them because they only require $11 per point for the deposit and the rest due 45 days before check in. So close to the holiday and I wanted to keep a little extra in my account. I did opt for the insurance as well, my mom has had some health problems recently so I want to have some reassurance. I will not get back all of my money if I deposit, but it makes it a little easier to swallow.
I'm still a ways from my stay, but the entire process has been super simple so far. I inquired a little early and was told I would receive an email with some quotes when it got closer to the 11 month mark. Sarah emailed me and I confirmed my preference and within 36 hours I had a secured reservation. I had a lot of first timer questions and all responses were very prompt. I'm so excited. Still can't believe we are getting a stay at the Poly for about $150 more than what I would have paid for POFQ (our favorite mod). We are over the moon excited and hoping we continue to have a smooth process.

For the record, I have heard nothing but good things about both places.

You can always soften them up in the drier, we've done that before lol!

They are still no where near as nice and often smell of pool. Plus it goes back to this - the towels from the pool are for the pool. Not for room use. I honestly dislike when people make this suggestion because it's really not what you should do. If you want more towels, call for them, don't take from the pool. I'm not sure why people think this is okay to suggest.

I'm not advocating going to the pool specifically to get extra towels. But I have been known to come back from the pool with my kids wrapped in a towel, or my hair wrapped in one. And I have usually washed them in the washer-dryer and used them again for my hair.

The person I quoted above was advocating to do that though. It's something that irks me as I stated.

I'm not sure I would ever use a pool towel on my head after using it at the pool though (but I get might wanting it to walk back to the room - we do leave ours though). Just doesn't strike me as a clean thing to do - and I even reuse my towels for days without worry LOL I think I've just seen too many squirrels and birds trying to walk all over our stuff :p

Perhaps it's because despite me being on vacation, I'm someone who doesn't like making other people (Cast Members) go out of their way and do extra work to accommodate a request that I can take care of on my own. Calling for more towels means a CM has to specifically go somewhere to get more towels and then bring them to my room. That might not be much of an endeavor in some of the DVC resorts, but others that's quite a trek for a CM. If I need towels, I'd much rather grab a couple spares the next time I happen to be walking past the pool than make someone do work for me.

Yes, you may say that it's their job, or that it's what the CM's are there for, or that I'm on vacation I shouldn't have to worry about things like that, but it's in my nature to not put others out.

And if you want to get into the financial aspects... All towels that are washed by Disney (both pool and room towels) are done in bulk, in large efficient commercial laundry machines. In terms of electricity and water used, the top-load machines in the DVC villas are nowhere near as efficient to wash and dry towels as the bulk commercial units are. So if I were to need two clean, dry towels and I didn't want to bother a CM, my choices would be to wash two dirty ones in my room (presumably as part of additional laundry so that it's not just two towels in a 1/3 full washer) or grab two from the pool. Which of those two options used less resources to clean the towels?

Or you could make the argument that if a bunch of people took towels away from the pool and up to their rooms, the supply of towels at the pools would have to be replenished more often. I'm not sure how it is at every one of the resorts because I haven't been to all of the pools to see their setups, but at the ones I've been to they have large carts with stacks upon stacks of clean towels in them. If they *happen* to run out, they move that cart aside and replace it with another full one. That's one CM, perhaps 10-15 minutes to replace a cart with many hundreds of towels. How long would it take that one CM to run extra towels to 30 different rooms?

All of these efficiencies in labor and utility bills mean that I'm doing my (admittedly infinitesimally) small part in keeping DVC member fees down by doing a little bit of work myself and not being wasteful in my utility usage or taking up CM's time.

And lastly, all this doesn't mean I'll never call Housekeeping for help with something that I can't resolve myself... One time we were in one of the villas and we wanted a blender for our unit. They happily brought one to the room. And just last week when we stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek, they had only left a single packet of soap for the dishwasher for the entire week. We asked if we could get a few more and they brought them. Neither of those situations are problems I could handle myself.

I don't appreciate the implications that I want people to work for me simply because I am on vacation. I'm quite the opposite thank you very much. To take from one area for your personal use to me is rude. You hit on part of why I don't like it (causing them to have to lug around large carts more often) but also because the towels are for the use at the pools. Why people cannot pay a few extra to get what they want is beyond me. Also It's also kind of gross idea to me not knowing how many hands were on that towel before I grabbed it. At least with housekeeping I can have a better guess.

If you really and truly are thinking about the workers, then hunt down a housekeeping person, grab them yourself from the cart and then pay the front desk. Truly though your argument about time doesn't hold water with me because we all know that housekeeping will be near a room daily even at DVC because some are always coming and going as well as different trash and towel days, so the 2 minutes there is no worse than the extra time taken to sort towels and bringing more in at the pool. Otherwise it's hard for me to believe anyone is taking from the pool for any other reason than avoiding a charge.

Not being mean or rude, but I don't see the point in arguing this further. You won't convince me and I won't you, so we should likely agree to disagree and move on :) (no hard feelings truly)

Just submitted a request with the Rental Store for a two bedroom lock off at the Boardwalk. We are staying the last week in October 2018. They informed me that there are a lot of request currently out for October. Now I'm nervous that I'm not going to get a reservation.

That is F&W fest time. BCV and BWV fill up pretty darn fast to owners. Mid week, you might have some luck, but weekends are going to be really tough unless they have alot of owners willing to rent in advance. They should be able to get you something at SSR or AKL or something similar, but BWV might be real hard.

I agree with @dreamfinder it's a very busy time. Your best option is to have requested a garden/pool view as standards book up really fast. Hopefully you will get it though. Epcot fills up super fast in the area followed by the monorail resorts for F&WF.

Sorry to post in an old thread. But curious to know if you have any experience in requesting a lot of points from Rental Store or Davids. I need 354 for a trip in May 2019. I'm working with Rental Store (2nd time with them - they're great) and they have confirmed availability for my dates. But I need 2 studio rooms for 8 nights each at Poly = 354points. Seems like a lot of points to put in one request though so I'm nervous that we won't find a Poly owner with this many points. Any thoughts would be very appreciated. I'm thinking of splitting the request to have my family and the other family on separate 177pt requests - risking that one family may need to find a room at another resort.
@Weather_Lady, you seem very knowledgeable in this stuff, curious on your POV. Thank you!

I'm afraid I don't have enough experience to be of much help! The most points I've rented was 269 (several nights in a 2-bedroom villa at Wilderness Lodge). I DO think you'll have a better chance by splitting up the request, as there will likely be more members who list points that can help each part of the group. (You might even list both requests simultaneously with David's and the Rental Store, providing them notice that you've made requests of both companies and will be renting from whichever can come through first, so long as you are willing to watch the status like a hawk and immediately cancel any pending requests, once yours are satisfied.)

However, my best recommendation is simply to contact David's and/or the Rental Store directly, and ask them for advice. Their customer service and communication are excellent, and for both of them, if you call, you get a real-live, English-speaking, on-site employee of the company. They may tell you that the number of points you want isn't all that outlandish. Or, they may advise you to structure the request in such as way as to "tie" two separate requests together as an "all or nothing" request, if that is your wish. (I was told to do this if I wanted a split stay structured a certain way, such that if they could only fill one of my two reservation requests and that was a dealbreaker for me, the whole deal would be off.) Good luck!

From an owner point of view, you will find some who can do that all for you. May is not a busy DVC time so renting points at less than 11 months isn't going to be that hard. Finding an owner with that many points might not be easy though. There are owners out there with that many points, but finding a renter for both might be hard.

You can book this now and honestly if this 2 room is important to you, I would do it now. I do think doing 2 separate reservations would be necessary at 7 months, but now I'd try to request the room for all the points you need and hope for the best.

354 as a whole isn't a ton of points for older owners. It would be more so for newer ones that seemingly buy smaller contracts. I personally do 7 nights in 2 studios and have enough PVB points to do it for that myself. So others might have it.

I admittedly didn't check to see if it was lake or standard view either you were looking for. Standard will be easier to get.
