Renting points vs. Room only reservation

We are in the midst of planning a trip for my birthday the first week of May. We really are trying to not stay at a value, but we don't want to break the bank as well. We do not need tickets, so I guess my question is... Would it be cheaper to rent dvc points or just book a moderate??

Depends on where you'd be looking at. We rented points several years ago for 5 nights at Old Key West for $500. You should check a DVC point calculator for your dates and resort preference (here's a good one: http://tagrel.com/util/dvcCalculator.php), and see what it comes out to point wise. Good rule of thumb is, multiply that number by $10, and that's what you'll be paying.

Of course, this is if we're talking a studio. A 1 or 2 bedroom will be more than likely much more expensive than a moderate.

I did a little math for you - First week of May, Sunday through Sunday, you're looking at 76 points for a Value Studio at Animal Kingdom Villas. That's not bad. If you can rent for $10 a point, that's only $760. THat would be less than a moderate.

There are a number of other message boards as well as services that rent points. The average asking price is about 10 dollars a point now.
