Renting DVC points confusion

Scenario: Was looking at renting points 11/12 - 11/18. A particular company listed this as being $5,635 for the Riveria 1BR we were wanting, or about 933/night. I check Disney and that same week, the rate is 863 per night (excluding taxes) (searched for 5 nights compared to 6 due to availability).

What am I missing here? Why is this particular company who is a big player in the space charging more than Disney rack rate?

I did another test for 11/12-11/16 as Disney had full availability. Before taxes, Disney is 3452 with a 3833 total. This company is 3588.
I. Am. Confused.

So I chatted with a support agent from this company. This company list prices that includes all taxes and fees. So:

Disney: 3833
Company: 3588

To save $245 dollars and be held to a far more harsh cancellation policy than what Disney offers, I am confused where the appeal is to rent points.

Are you comparing apples to apples? Standard view currently at 39 points vs preferred at 49 points a day? I believe that the current new member price per point from Disney is around 249 and 137 for resale.

Yes, this was apples to apples (Standard 1BR vs Standard 1BR).

@Schweino , were these confirmed rentals? As in they already existed. Several of the brokers are focussing more on these now, and I believe one reason is that it’s far easier for them to get a much higher rate per room.

If you request 5 nights at BWV in a standard studio, you can calculate how many points and therefore how much it will cost you at a fixed rate, say $20 per point. If they can “hide” it by just giving the dates and not the number of points, they might get away with a higher price.

But whatever the reason, if it’s cheaper to book through Disney then I would do that.

These were not 'confirmed' rentals. This was using a cost calculator given by said Company, so I am assuming its just charging x per point that is required for my reservation.

That is indeed true, and the choice is theirs, but survivability long term when you aren't that much different than the original, and the argument could be made that it's a worse decision when factoring in the risk/cancellation policy, is what I question.

In my comparisons, I’ve found the other major site to be cheaper than the one listed here. But my research has been limited.

Having just checked for myself, using David’s DVC calculator and a vpn for the Disney site, the rates for the standard 1-bed is $3883 from Disney vs $3588 from the broker. I agree in this case even $300 probably isn’t worth it.

However the points cost for a 1-bed is totally skewed generally, being pretty much twice that for a studio. Whereas Disney cash price is more akin to 50% more than a studio.
Renting points for a studio or a 2-bed tends to give far greater savings, more like 30%.

David’s use a fixed rate per point which varies according to which resorts and how far in advance. They do the vast majority of their rentals this way, as opposed to the confirmed reservations that other brokers prefer.

I have friends who never rent because 1 bedrooms are never cheaper than renting (their words). They told me costs once and I was surprised, but it's been known for quite a few years.

If it’s the major rental site I’m thinking then it does look like they dropped a fair bit recently.

I rented out some AKV points late last year and got $18 pp and now they are only offering $14 pp. slight gutting as I was planning to rent a load out to cover one of their cruise swaps but it’s going to cost me a fair bit more

Poor old Key west owners are only getting $12

Dave’s is still offering $16. DVCRentalStore is increasing their margin.
