Renting; Dave vs Others

We ended up selling our DVC Membership a few years ago. Now sort of regretting it. But we're planning on a visit Jan1-7th 2019. Wanting to rent points . From commercial renters I've narrowed it down to 2, Dave's and DVC Rentals . Both are highly rated by BBB. Any opinions on which is preferred? Which is more likely to find a unit(1 bdrm),ease of dealing with and so on. How quickly do they usually find fill your request? I know it depends on they're inventory and such. I want to be reserving between 10-11 months out. Exact time depends on tax refund. Thanks again.

As you said, it really depends on their inventory. Both try to keep a good selection of points, but outside of that, can't make any guarantees. Your ability to get a booking will really depend on what you are looking for. That may still be a busy time, solely from people who stayed NYE, so getting that whole stretch may be tough. If you are flexible as to the resort, that will greatly increase your chances.

One more question. Between the 2 of them which is more likely to be able to fulfill the request? Who generally has the larger volume of people who get points from?

I'm not sure there's any way of knowing that. Certainly David's is recommended by several sites. But then if someone is looking to rent out their points they could list them with both sites.

However at the end of the day, it depends on an owner accepting a request (David emails owners who have points that match a request). Neither site can book with DVC, an owner has to do that. So neither site holds an actual "bank of points" to simply dip into.

I've flirted with buying DVC points several times, even committing the deposit David's requires to even search availability. They didn't have any openings for what I was looking for either time, and I was asking 6-7 months out. The ones I was looking at were at the low end of the price range, so I imagine those go the fastest. If there is availability, the balance is due immediately. it would be tough to commit that much $ more than 7 months from the trip.

I don't like not being able to see what is available and when without having to go through someone else.

Here's some info from my personal experience (rented three nights for my parents this march).

- If you put in a request with Dave's Vacation Club, you also need to pay ~$100 deposit. If they have your available room, they will instantly book it for you and you are committed.
- DVC Rental Store does not require a deposit, but from what I remember their prices were a tad bit higher.

- When requesting, they both had almost the same availability.
- The reason we went with Dave's was simply because of the customer service. We gave them three options for hotels and our nights, but they could only fill two of the three (we requested more in-demand resorts five months out). They worked with us quickly to find a three day time slot and went as far as sending us calendars of dates available at the Polynesian (which we ended up booking).
