Renting an RV at FW

Anyone ever rent an RV and stay at FW? I am thinking of doing this but have never done it before so if someone could give me details I would appreciate it. Also, how does this compare price-wise as opposed to staying at a moderate or deluxe resort? TIA.

Just looked into this. We decided it was not cost savings for us. It depends on the size of rental you want really, we were looking at one for 6 people, one being a two year old. So for the rental, campsite and taxes, fees etc...we would be more comfortable in two rooms at a mod with a discounted room, or even two rooms at a value. Plus, there is the privacy issue, not much in an RV except for the bedroom. Bigger RV's may be better, they rent as high as 900 a week, plus campsite rental, full hook up and fees for setting it up, 75 buck and taxes.

We LOVE FW!! Can't afford the cabins, golf cart and be able to stay for as long as we want, 7 full nights. One fine day I will save enough to go and do what I want, stay where I want. Just right now I like to go every year and I missed last year, so going and staying outside FW is okay with me, as long as I go. Does that makes sense?

I have never seen one significantly beat the price of a value to moderate when you include a the cost of the rental, the site at Ft Wilderness, insurance, fuel, etc unless you get a simple pop up and tow in with your own vehicle and even that is a stretch.

Okay, there are a couple of places that you can actually rent an RV and they will set it up for you right at the Fort. One is FortCamperRental.com but they are going to retire at the end of April 2016. There are other outfits that do the same thing. You should check out FortFiends.net then go to info tab and then support our sponsors and you will find a listing of different places that will rent the RV to you and set it up and pick it up from the Fort for you. I personally have not done this but I have read many happy reviews on Fort Fiends. So you can actually camp at the fort without having to have your own tow vehicle. You would have the price of the RV rental and the price of your site at the fort. Just as an aside, the fort is a wonderful place to stay!
