Renting a sailboat...

My husband has promised ds that we'd rent a sailboat from CBR while we're there. Does anyone know where I can find info on how much this will cost? I can't find it on the disney web site or on AllEars.

Not all watercraft available at all Marinas.

There is a 10% DVC discount and a 15% Passholder discount available for watercraft rentals at any Walt Disney World Resort Marina. Discounts subject to availability.

In order to rent watercraft, a guest must be 18 years of age and present a Walt Disney World Resort ID or a valid driver's License. Guests must be at least 12 years old and at least 5 feet tall to drive a Sea Raycer by Sea Ray®. A person with a valid driver's license must accompany any driver under the age of 15 in the Sea Raycer by Sea Ray® in the Magic Kingdom Resort Lakes. Guests 15 years or older may operate the Sea Raycer by Sea Ray® independently in the Magic Kingdom Lakes. Guests at least 12 years old and at least 5 feet tall may independently operate a Sea Raycer by Sea Ray® in the Non Magic Kingdom Resort Lakes and Waterways. There is a maximum combined weight of 320lbs. permitted for a Sea Raycer by Sea Ray®. Drivers of Tracker pontoon boats and Boston Whaler Montauk boats must be 18 years of age. Guests who rent a Boston Whaler Montauk from the Downtown Disney Marina will be restricted to the Village Lake only and rentals are limited to 30 minutes. Guests who rent a Boston Whaler Montauk from the Old Key West Resort Marina or the Port Orleans Riverside Marina will be restricted to the Sassagoula River connecting both resorts and rentals are limited to 30 minutes. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release. Complimentary life jackets must be worn on all boats.

Do you think I need to make a reservation for a boat or can we just "sail" by the seat of our pants and be spontanious?

All boat rentals are walk-up only. Advance reservations are not accepted. Except for peak times at the Magic Kingdom Resorts (Contemporary, Polynesian, Grand Floridian) boats rarely sell out. Enjoy your stay!

Obviously, I would have to rent it for him, but The Son (14) has been sailing for years and is a much better sailor than I. Would he be able to take the boat out alone, or at least at the helm? I would certainly trust him more than someone over 18 who had never sailed before.

For the sail boats, an adult will need to accompany a minor, but your son will be allowed to take the helm. Only motorized watercraft (Sea Raycers, Tracker pontoon boats and Boston Whaler Montauk) have age requirements for driving.
