Alamo and Avis both have locations in WDW (Alamo in the Car Care Center, Avis in the Downtown Disney Hilton) so if you need service on property, that's convenient.

Thanks for the response. I actually need something at Orlando Intl. Airport. I did a search on Expedia for prices for when I am going on a Full Size car. This would be from Friday Jan 30 to Saturday Feb 7. So for 8 days.

The two best prices were:

Thrifty - $127.00
Dollar - $158.00

Have you or anyone else had good experience with either. Hertz was over $100 more per week.

Thanks,
Mike

Dollar is OK (at best)

Thrifty isn't bad per se.... I don't have any bad experiences with them

just remember to bring proof of insurance, and if you come from Massachusetts, ask your insurance company for a set of insurance cards.

also... Dollar rents DaimlerChrysler and affiliate products (ie. Dodge, Chrysler, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, etc).

Thrifty rents mainly Mitsubishi... and they also have a location near WDW (Caribe Royale resort) so f you have any problems, they're closeby

Thanks for the info. I think I will go Thrifty. For the price it is great. I did not want to do a Mears shuttle, you are stuck with certain times and with a child, we need a car seat and plenty of space, and blah, blah, blah. You no what I mean.

Anyway, thanks again. I am looking forward to this trip very much. Has been almost 4 years since our last one.

I would have to recommend Dollar over anyone. Over the last few years I have rented from Avis, Alamo, National, Thrifty and Dollar. My best experiece thus far was with Dollar. Far and away the best deal for the cleanest car. Plus, they are very convenient and short lines.

Traveling with a kid, I would recommend bringing your own car seat with you if its not too big of an inconvenience. Much more comforable for them (and you) on the plane, and probably a LOT safer than the junky and expensive ones the rental companies give you.

My last experience with Budget was not good at all. The car seat they gave us was down right dangerous and looked to be about 20 years old. Also, the brakes on the car were scraping (worn out pads) after just a few miles of driving. Then they had the nerve to charge us an extra day because we were 3 hours over on returning the car.

Another to stay away from is Alamo. I've rented from them several times at WDW and other locations, and have NEVER, EVER had a positive experience.

Hertz is more expensive, but may be worth it in my opinion.

Go to www.mousesavers.com for rental car info. They post discount codes for the rental car companies that can save you a lot of money. I used Budget and had a good experience. You do not have to leave the airport to get your car. When you're travelling with an infant, this is easier than getting on a shuttle bus to get your car.

Hertz provides the best service imo. We fly into Kissimmee Gateway AP which is a GenAviation field closer to WDW, but has a Hertz inside the Marathon FBO.

I agree with the person who said Hertz tends to be the most expensive but if you call the location you're renting from directly instead of using hertz.com or their 800 number you can get the rate you want, or were quoted from a lesser company. They would rather book the res than tell you they can't give you a low rate 99% of the time.

We like Hertz for their higher end vehicles. But if you aren't concerned with that and a Ford Taurus is fine for a full size, then try calling the location directly for a matching price.

Hertz is owned by Ford and you'll rarely find a vehicle with over 20,000 miles in their fleet and they're very about oil changes.

Those are pretty good prices.

I checked Expedia.com and got higher prices for our week in early Feb/04 for 7 days. We also have been keeping an eye on Travelocity.com rental rates. The best so far for a fullsize 7 day rental is $129.99US + $40 taxes= $170US from "Payless" without any special codes or coupons.
Payless are off-site from MCO airport about 3 minutes with an immediate shuttle service. Off-site companies don't charge as much as Terminal renters.

#1 Payless at $130 + $40 taxes = #170US, off-site
#2 Thirfty at $136 + $50 = $186US, off-site
#3 Alamo at $157 + $46 = $203US, Terminal branch

I've noticed they change from week to week so keep checking from time to time!

cheers....

Coupon, code?? If so, can you share the #??

How much are the extra taxes?

I have not booked it yet. That was the quote I got for Thrifty by using Expeida.com.
