Rental Car Size vs Stroller

My wife and I are used to renting the tiniest car possible for the best price. The next time we go down though we are going to have a stroller (a large Chicco travel system w/ car seat) so tiny car will no longer be an option. The question is, what is the smallest car we can rent (need to save $$$ as much as possible)?

We'll need to fit two suitcases and the stroller base in the trunk/cargo area. We are definitely bringing our stroller (so no need to comment about renting one). I already know the stroller won't fit in the trunk of my 2001 Subaru Impreza (and forget about my wife's Eclipse, time to trade up).

Any thoughts?

The smallest non-SUV you can get away with is a full-size sedan. It seems that the default mid-size vehicle for many Orlando area rental agencies is a Chevy HHR (you can count tons of them in any given WDW parking lot). While that particular car may look big from the outside, looks can be deceiving. The last time I ended up with that car we barely fit our 3 suitcases in the trunk. Carry-ons, shopping acquisitions, and everything else had to go in the backseat next to whoever was back there. I doubt a stroller would fit in the trunk with 2 pieces of luggage.

The summer that we ended up with a full size sedan, a Ford Crown Victoria (think cop car) we shoved 4 suitcases, carry-ons, food, shopping acquisitions, and 5 people in that car. The trunk was absolutely cavernous. It drove like a land yacht but we had plenty of room.

You may be able to get away with some of the mid-sized options. I know Budget has Fors Fusions as an offering, and their trunks are good-sized. Avis I think offers the Ford Focus and Chevy Cruze at compact and intermediate level, and their trunks could probably work also.

How many are there traveling in all? If it's you two and the child, some luggage may be able to fit in the back floorboard as well.....

As mentioned above, if it is only 3 of you, you can always put luggage on the floor in the car or you can put the stroller in the back seat too.

It's not a super long drive from the airport, so it would be no problem.
