Rent DVC, then Value Resort?

Hey folks, just wondering if you think this would be worth it or not:

My friends and I are all poor and look for the cheapest deals, but we have also never stayed anywhere but the All Stars. I would really like to spend some time at another resort, just to see what it's all about. Here are our options for next May:

-All Stars or POP for entire stay...Saturday to the following Sunday

-Rent DVC Points (which I've never done) for Beach Club or Boardwalk for Sat through Thursday, then switch to a value resort so as not to pay the extra points for Fri, Sat, and Sun... (This will only cost us about $40 more per person in total)

-Rent DVC Points for OKW for Sat. - Thurs., then switch to a value resort (this will cost us about $15 per person in total) but I hear the bus system is a bit sucky...we like to get to the parks FAST

Okay, I want ALL opinions...THANKS!!

My personal opinion would be to do the #2 and stay part time at Beach Club or Boardwalk. We are DVC members at Beach Club and it's such a nice resort. (though this year we are trying something different and using our points to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge).

As to the Parks, you can walk to Epcot and MGM (that's quite a walk though) or take the boat to both which is nice. The Bus ride to the other parks do stop at the Beach Club, Yatch Club, Boardwalk and Swan and Dolphin, but not much of a ride.

If you do the Beach Club, put in for fifth floor Epcot View if you can, that's what we've got the last couple years, and it's great, as the nights you want to stay in you can just sit on your balcony and watch the fireworks.

Have fun,

The Sunday night would be at weeday rate, not weekend (FYI).

I am torn on switching resorts for only a 7 day stay. You end up spending about half a day, packing and unpacking and moving and checking out/in. To me, I would stay at either DVC or the Value Resorts. Now if you were staying for longer, say 14 days ( which we did this on our last trip), we stayed 7 and 7.

The Boardwalk Villas and Beach Club Villas are great resorts, and the walk isnt bad my family could usually make the walk in 5 minutes from the middle of the BWVs. The thing is if you are going during a reasonablly busy time you need to get your Villas booked atleast 7 months before the trip BWV and especially the BCVs can be tough to get into at the last minute.

Hey,

I, as well, look for the best deal possible when travelling to WDW! I would absolutely recommend POP. I love it. I went there last Oct for the 1st time and I am returning in Sept. It was the most affordable for us. Plus, their bus system is awesome--I would highly recommend.

However, we don't spend any time at the resorts, except for sleeping and showering. If you planned on spending more time at the resorts, then I would probably recommend the 2nd choice. If you spend every second at the parks, I'd save your extra $ and stay at the POP!:D

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Seeing someone mention spending time at the resort. Another great thing about Beach Club is their 3 acre pool area. It is really nice, with a water slide that comes down from the top of a pirate ship. I don't know about the pools at the other resorts, but this one is awesome. I also believe that because it is so nice that it is one of the few pools that you can't pool hop to, you have to be staying at the Beach or yatch clubs resorts to use.

I really don't want to get this thread off topic (and close to a lockdown), but pool hopping isn't allowed anywhere at WDW except for guests staying at the two Port Orleans resorts (Riverside and French Quarter). They are allowed to hop between those two only. Hopping is STRICTLY enforced at Stormalong Bay (the BC's pool), so I wouldn't even attempt to go there unless you're staying at BC/YC.

For the OP: I would spring for the DVC point rental. The deluxes are (obivously) a lot nicer than the Values and I think the $40/person extra would be money well spent. It was also mentioned, but I think it deserves repeating: Sundays are counted as weekdays for point calculations. Only Fri and Sat are higher.

I'd go with #2 just because I think it's the biggest upgrade and they're both great resorts. My wife and I stayed at the Boardwalk two years ago and are going back this Fall. We loved it because of its proximity to Epcot and MGM, as well as the fact that if we didn't feel like hoofing it all the way to DTD there were places like Jellyrolls and ESPNZone to go to at night, as well as some great restaurants at different price levels.

This thread brings up a question I've had for some time, and one that's been discussed with a few co-workers before, too.

Where, exactly, does one go to *rent* DVC points?

I can find tons of info about buying and reselling, but haven't had much luck with rentals.

I guess I can wait until my trip in late August to talk to the folks in those little DVC booths, but I'd like to get a better idea earlier. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Try Mousesavers.com or Mouseowners.com. I think Allearsnet.com may have something as well. Basically you find a message board where people are posting that they are renting points, you contact the DVC owner and make arrangements. You pay the DVC owner direct, they make the reservation in your name. The only down side is that if you can not go, then you likely will get very little of your money back because the DVC owner is penalized (has to use those points now, verses banking them).

Disboards has a massive DVC rental forum. Read the FAQs here, then the posting forum is here

I am definitely thinking about doing this for a future trip. Deluxe resort and just over Moderate prices! (usually)
