I can't believe I forgot this. But Sunday marked the 5th anniversary of the tragic death of Owen Hart. It was a day I don't think any wrestling fan will ever forget. Owen would have been 39 today. I wasn't watching the show that night but my friend Chris told me there was an accident involving Owen. I didn't think it was too serious though then I woke up the next morning to the horrible news. I think I was affected a little more than other fans. Owen had been one of my heroes. I had followed him his whole career. I just admired the Hart family so much. I remember at the time, I was really pushing for Owen to get some kind of main event angle. Sadly, he never got the chance. He actually had only a few more years of wrestling left, before he would retire. He had saved up to buy the dream house he never got to move into. Owen was a role model, he lived life the way it should've been. He loved his family so much. The world lost a great man on May 23, 1999. Owen, you are forever missed. :(

I'm out of the wrestling loop. What happened?

Five years ago at a pay-per-view event in Kansas City, Owen Hart was killed during a botched stunt. He was supposed to descend from the rafters on a cable, but his harness broke, and he plunged 90 feet onto the ring in front of like 20,000 people. :(

and yet...they still went on with the show.... :(

Looking back, it seemed wrong, but at the time, they didn't yet know Owen had died, it was just an accident. Cutting short the PPV would have wrecked havok on their plans, not to mention, annoy all the people who bought it. You could argue either case though. But what's done is done.

I was one of the last fans to watch him wrestle his last televised match in Ft. Lauderdale on the Raw before the PPV. I've also got some great pics of him and British Bulldog (RIP as well), as the tag champs when they did a show in West Palm Beach back when it was Bret, Owen, Bulldog, and Brian Pillman (another RIP), and I think Jim 'The Anvil' Niedhart (SP?) when they were Anti-America/Pro-Canada.

Amazing the number of squared-circle atheletes we've lost since then. RIP!!!!!!!!!!!!
