Remember when WDW had great A/C?

Sortof. You always set your a/c lower than it needs to be for buildings that you expect a lot of bodies in at any point.

You are aiming for thermal comfort (yes, a real term). There are a few ways to calculate and design this, but for areas that will have large crowds, they will certainly seem almost (if not totally)uncomfortably cold when unoccupied or sparsely occupied.

Are you sure? I looked up the term...basically said the temperature an individual finds comfortable (one person comfortable at 70, a second person may find it too warm).

I suppose it does make sense to have an area a little cooler in a congested area, as I guess people would feel the heat off of others..

Yes, it is a real term. It involves not just temperature but also humidity and the types of activities that will be ongoing in the space. A great example of utilizing body heat and other indirect sources is Mall of America which has no central heating system.

I think Animal Kingdom is notorious for having the least amount of a/c. Even the shops are barely lukewarm. There's no place to cool off in that park. One of the many reasons I ONLY go there in the winter when it's cool. It's hot outside...it's hot inside...just uncomfortable.

This is why we avoided AK most of our visits- it was miserably hot, in February!! and only caused bad tempers due to the heat.

AK's definatly a park for cooler temperatures, we had a great time last Feb when it was much much cooler!

Yeah we tend to only go when it's cool outside.

Where are you from? I never think the heat in Florida is that bad...we have worse summers in Texas. Florida can get humid, but it's rarely over 100. Texas can be humid and over 100 every day. We once had 100+ Temps for 60 straight days and up into the 105-106 range.

I'm from the UK. It doesn't get nearly up to the hot, humid temperatures Florida gets, needless to say!

Oh yeah, UK...

You've got to be in hell when you go to Florida. It's really interesting how people get used to the climate in which they live. I see people from the Northeast swimming when it's 75 degrees or wearing shorts when it's 60. For Texans, that's jacket weather.

Yes
I noticed when we were there in October that stuff wasn't "as cold" as it usually is. I chalked it up to energy savings.

(yes I realize it's currently cold out, but I was just thinking of this)

Back in the old days, walking into any building at WDW meant you were met with a powerful blast of refreshing coolness. Today this is mostly not the case. You hardly ever get that awesome climate control anymore, often its cooler than the outside but not cool enough to refresh you.

Even worse, I have found that if the outside temperatures are more mild but still warm, there isn't any air conditioning at all in some attractions which leaves the air feeling warm and stuffy.

Not to turn this into another Disney vs. Universal thread, but at Universal the buildings are still kept very cool, the way WDW used to be.

I'm originally from "up north", but have been a Florida resident for 25 years now. If the A/C is blasting anywhere at Disney at full blast, I'm looking for a heavy fur coat. LOL!

They may have scaled back a tad to save electricity, but you figure with everything else going on - I highly doubt turning the A/C back a degree or two is hardly going to make a dent in Disney's electric bill. All I know is that the buildings (especially the resorts and the rooms) are still cold. :)

We live in Buffalo (not sure why anyone lives here) so it is cold 7 months out of 12. The heat hits us hard in Florida. When I am on vacation I really do not care about energy consumption. I want the a/c blasting!

The only thing I don't like about the air at Disney is in the hotel rooms. I liked the thermostats that you could lower enough that you may see snow coming out of the air vents. Now you have ones that don't go that low and it's never quite cold enough. Stupid rooms!!

Not noticed a change personally. Must admit though one of my pet hates is sitting in a restaurant in Orlando and feeling too chilly due to the A/C.

If there has been a temperature change, I'm all for it! My most recent trip was one where I didn't have to bring a sweater with me all of the time. I think it used to be way too cold in many places.
