Remember the Rewrite

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) -- Academy Award-winning screenwriter Stephen Gaghan ("Traffic") has signed on to pen a high-profile rewrite for Ron Howard's upcoming period picture, "The Alamo," at Disney. The Disney picture, expected to be Howard's next, would reteam the Oscar-heavy team behind "A Beautiful Mind" -- Howard, his Imagine Entertainment producing partner Brian Grazer and Russell Crowe, who will be one of the ensemble cast of "Alamo." Though neither Grazer, Howard nor Crowe's deals are closed, all three parties are negotiating with Disney for a potential December start to shoot on location in Texas. "Alamo" is expected to deal with many of the historical complexities -- including the Mexican point of view -- that were glossed over in John Wayne's 1960 film. Alamo heroes William Barret Travis' serial marital infidelities, Jim Bowie's slave trading and Davy Crockett's overall political incorrectness will also be addressed.

I have one question..If it's a hit...What will they do with the Crocket Busses at Fort Wilderness?!? Oh, how sad! If only he was more conservative!

This sounds like one for the Miramax or Touchstone label. I can't believe Disney would want to be associated directly with anything this controversial...although some great films have been produced by Miramax. (Just saw The Cider House Rules over the weekend. Great movie but I doubt Fanatsyland will offer a ride through the Cider House anytime soon!)

If it's truth, then it isn't controversial. What I can't forgive disney for doing is the Scary Movie movies. They /do/ own Dimenison Films, don't though? I'm gonna feel really stupid if they don't...

I hope they have some things that the public can watch/get involved in while filming. I would be willing to drive down to San Antonio to get involved!
