Remember: (the original) Universe of Energy

Hey Ya'll!

It's been fun to remember Horizon's; the World of Motion; and the Tapestry of Nations Parade.

So now let's take a look back at the original Universe of Energy B.E. (before Ellen). When you are under the age of 5 this ride always made you a little scared because it was a dark ride with these huge dinosaurs lurking over you and around you.

The pre-show featured a film that was shown on a screen that had tiles that rotated that showed different forms of how we harness energy (I remember a windmill being one of them).

From there you would walk to where they loaded the ride vehicle for your journey. Most of the ride itself today has stayed the same except for the scenes of Ellen and the voice over audio track. The smell in this place was a unique one...I remember a store in a nearby town that had the same smell and it would always make me thing of the Universe of Energy...kind of wood stove sort of smell.

From the different scenes with the dino's you travel to another area with more screens that featured people who were walking, running, etc. and featured the song "Feel the flow, here we go, to the Universe of Energy". Another song featured on this ride was "Energy You Make the World Go Round".

I miss the original version of this ride. The Ellen version is o.k. but I think this ride needs a refurb maybe with some of the original music back with new performers singing it.

Hope this brings back some memories and if Ive forgotten anything then I'm sorry and add it so it will refresh my memory..lol.

Take care.

GREAT classic EPCOT Center attraction.A bit didactic and less fun but still amazing.

"It's the universe...the universe...the Universe of Energy!"

"Come with us now and relive a few moments of the dark and mysterious past":D

I seems like this Epcot Center attraction always gets less attention that the others. I never saw the original, though most people have said that it was too far on the education side of "Edutainment". Honestly, I think changing it at the time was probably a pretty good idea, and has a better balance of information and comedic entertainment. I just wonder what UoE v. 3 will be like.

The original was far better than the Bill Nye / Ellen garbage. The spinning blocks preshow was just a very clever way to keep you interested. Ellen just lacks the ability to hold you for more than a minute. After that she just becomes annoying, like someone sitting behind you in the movies talking constantly.

I loved the music from that version of the attraction and I liked parts of the script such as the Traveling theatre is another Epcot innovention, computers control and synchrnoise the entire presentation, even guiding the vehicles along a wire, that is just 1/8th of an inch thick. Where the ride allows the rider to have an understanding of what is going on to make the ride possible.

But I truely love the humor of the current attraction, Ellen rocks.

I loved the music for the original UofE. It's still some of my favorite stuff to listen too.

I have about a 90 - 95% complete ride through video from 1984, I just haven't edited it and posted it to youtube. I wasn't sure anyone would want to sit through 30 plus minutes edutainment.

^ Which is fine, but I've been meaning to get mine put together anyway. I might as well put it on youtube, if I'm editing it for my own collection.

The more the better, I say!

Having a problem

I am trying to view the videos on mousebits, but am having a bit of a problem. What program is needed to view the clips? When I click on the torrents, it prompts a download, but then it asks what program to use. What am I doing wrong?

You need a free client program. Have a look in the MouseBits assistance forum - it isn`t too difficult

OK, thanks I found what you're talking about. What a great site, lots of cool info there, here too! :)

I wish I would have found this site earlier. Oh well, I'm just glad to find out that there are others out there that miss the old Epcot as much as I do. :D
