Having a mythical creature fits perfectly into the Animal Kingdom theme! Need proof? Just take a look at the animals depicted on every single bench in the park!!! One of them is a dragon!!!!!!!!

Can't really say I've been on any runaway limos... but I've been in one on I-4, which might as well be the same thing.

I don't know, but I'm still keen to my Griffin Coaster idea instead of Reign... go check on the Imagineering board and check it out.

Very true. The dragon is very prominent in the AKL logo. And I've always seen that as a glimmer of hope that BK will eventually become a reality, hopefully in my lifetime!

I have never heard of BK until I started visiting this site. And when I read about some of the rumours (some based on legitimate information, some just wild speculations), I was excited that Disney appeared to be serious about BK. Then I visited AK for the first time in April. Every time I saw the dragon, it just hit me as being a little...off? Disney did such a wonderful job with AK, and I loved the theming, the attractions, the animals (didn't see as many as I wanted to), and I saw great potential for this new park to expand over the coming years (decades?). Did I think there were some things they should do differently or better? Sure I did, like a lot of people. But the whole tie-in to BK just didn't seem to fit with what Disney had already done.

From what I've read, dragons in old mythology were creatures that were feared and revered, not because they could talk, or had ancient wisdom, or other similar qualities that have only come about in the past 50 years to sell movies or books. But because dragons had destructive power, like killing people, ravaging crops and livestock, and causing a "blight" upon the land. Dragons had an "evil" connotation throughout most of Europe.

DogsRule! asked how killing any animal fits into the theme of Animal Kingdom. Well, put all the animals together, and you'd see some killing then! It's called survival. Part of nature. If some large, powerful, fire-breathing creature were wiping out humanity, I tend to think that people doing something about it fits right into the same concept: survival. But, we don't have to worry about that, because...dragons are MYTH. Which is why BK being added on to AK just seems a little *off* to me. I still welcome the coaster!

I really don't see how Disney would think about doing any theming with people fighting dragons. It's just too un-P/C for the parks. My earlier references to Sleeping Beauty and Snow White were just toungue-in-cheek, a reminder of the days before P/C.

BTW, go back and watch the 1981 film "Dragonslayer", a joint venture between Paramount and...Disney! What a dragon!

But, all this is moot. Chances are, plans are already on the drawing boards. Maybe Steve will read this thread again, and give us a clue if concepts are already set in stone, or still in the planning stage. Hint to Steve, hint to Steve...
