Refrigerators in Resort Hotels

we requested a refrigerator for our hotel room at Animal Kingdom Lodge because my children love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cereal (with milk), juices, freeze pops, etc....

I thought we would bring these items with us, first to save money and second for the convenience.

my questions are:

1. how big is this refrigerator?

2. does it have a freezer department, for like freeze pops, ice, etc?

3. does the resort hotels (Animal Kingdom Lodge) allow you to bring in these items from outside? Milk, jucies, etc.

4. from what I understand talking to the WDW reservation specialists, the cost is an extra $10.00 a day, is that correct?

the reason I'm asking these questions are because when we got our reservation confirmation this saturday, it stated we requested a refrigerator for medical purposes, which we never mention to the reservation specialists...we requested the refrigerator, but not for medical purposes.

any feedback would be great.

Animal Kingdom Lodge here we come!

3. Not a problem.

4. Yes, $10 is correct.

In fact, we stayed 6 days so we bought a refrigerator just for Animal Kingdom Lodge. It cost us $49, so we saved some money. They carried the fridge to our room for us, along with our grocery items and standard luggage.

thanks,

I was just worried they frowned on that....

but, I guess when your paying $175.00 a night, bringing outside grocerys in, isn't a big deal.

thanks again for your response.

If you have a medical reason, ie need meds refrigerated and I even read somewhere breast milk, you get the refrigerator for free. When I made my request the woman asked me if we needed it for medications or anything. Right now we don't but my daughter gets frequent ear infections so she may need them then. We are stopping at the grocery and getting breakfast foods, pop and beer and using the refrig. for that.

I don't know how long you are staying at AKL, or how you will feel about this idea, but here is a suggestion: We once bought a $60 fridge/freezer combo from a Wal-Mart in Orlando and took it to our room in WDW. We were there for about 13 days, and it was a heck of alot cheaper than renting one from WDW for $10 a night. No one ever said anyting about it, and we saved about $70. We didn't have to haul it home, either. We just offered it to another guest, who graciously accepted it. That's just an idea!

This is no longer true. To many guests took advantage of that kind gesture by Disney. Now it's $10 a day no matter what.

I never realized that small refrigerators had become so cheap. Disney is clearly overcharging for them - at that price they ought to be standard in the deluxe resorts and no more than $5 per day at the moderates. I realize they probably break down failrly quickly, but again at $50-$75 each they could just replace it.

Has anyone brought their own and then try to resell it to the hotel? Or do people do what one poseter did - give it to another guest?

They are standard at DVC (studios too.) Sorry, I just LOVE DVC!!!!!

When we stayed at Poly in 2001 my DD had an ear infection that she had antiboics that needed to be keept cold. We mentioned that at check in and they send one to our room. They did not mention the 10$ a day fee at that time. When we got our bill I let called FD and let them know it was fore medical reasons, and I had not been informed on the charge at the time. They took it off.

10$ a day adds up, but it is worth it in the end.

I don't think I would want to stay with out one again, it is really so convenent. (But then again I said I LOVE DVC!)

We bought one on the last trip we debated on renting or buying, we bought one and at the end of our 2 weeks we passed it on, along with a stroller and some beach towels..needless to say we made many people smile and saved ourselves some money as well. So if you are going for a week or more I would stop at the local Wal-Mart run in and get the fridge, soda, juice, snacks etc. They even have the minifreezer on top that holds bottled water or freeze pops!

I'm only staying 6 days, so unless I can find one for less than $60.00, than I'll just pay the $10.00 per day...

thanks,

It's fairly easy to do, just look in the Sunday flyers, I bet you will find several at that price bracket. If you want, I will consider selling ours. We only used it at Disney and it's like new. We didn't think to give ours away, instead we lugged it back home with us.

Sorry about the mis information on the refrig. I was told that less than a month ago by a woman in reservations. It must have changed since.

Tiny, you can get 4 or 5 regular sized soda cans in in the door and a couple of large bottles on the two shelves, you might squeeze in a few smaller items, but not much more.

Yes, but once again this is very small.

Yep, no problems. We stayed at PO:RS and brought in milk and sodas that we bought at 7/11 on I-Drive.

Yep, $10.00 plus tax.

These are what I guess you would call a small 'beer fridge,' very tiny and very expensive. If you driving down and staying for a week or more then you would be better off buying your own and bringing it with you.

Your best bet (if you are staying longer than a week) is to just buy your own. For $70 you can get a nicer, newer, bigger mini-fridge. Don't let Disney sucker you in.
