In the preview center they showed new seamless circlevision footage that they said was part of the new film though. Seems to me like they did do some filming but clearly never finished.

This wasn’t really new seamless 360 footage. This was simply an image repeated 3 times and stitched together in a circle.

Since were on the topic for those interested, there is a fascinating book called Polishing the Dragons, Making Epcot's Wonders of China. All about the production of the original 360 and what all they went through and gives a lot of insight into the behind the scenes rooms of Epcot's creation as well in the 70's and 80s. Talk about skill, art, and Imagineering. Its a miracle the first film ever got made.
