Red Banner Day

Any chance that's supposed to read red letter day?

A red-letter day is an important date, named because it is marked (traditionally) by red instead of black on the calendar.

If there really is a red banner day, I have no idea what that means. Sorry!

It's from a "West Wing" episode. The quote reads: "It's a red-banner day, and I'm just happy I'm here to participate." At least, that's what I got. Sometimes, there are differencies between the written file and what's actually said on screen, but since they didn't send me a tape...

Then I am as lost as you are! I just typed it into dictionary.com and came up with nothing.

Sorry! Maybe someone else will be able to figure it out.

Thanks, Erika!

If nothing comes up, I'll go with your take on the red-letter day thing. In the end it'll all be the same, I guess.

Red banner & Red letter days are the same, I've heard them both used to describe a good or important day.
