Hello, I was looking for recommendations for an offsite hotel in the DTD area. It will be 2 families (4 adults, 6 kids). Looking to go last week in July 2009.
Thanks ahead of time. :)

I love the Orlando Vista (the hotel with the pineapples out front). Frank and Bianca in the cafe are super and its so close to everything!

We stay at the Courtyard by Marriott at Vista Place. If you use the "Entertainment" card, you get half off the rate. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite for $60 per night.

Go to downtowndisneyhotels.com

They have a whole list of hotels that are right there on hotel plaza blvd. Also some offer a discount if you book through this site. I have stayed at the Hotel Regal Sun (when It was grovsnor) and loved it. My brother has stayed at the Best Western. Granted this has been a few years ago. I must say last year we stayed at the Holiday Inn sunspree last August. It's located on Rt535 about 1.5 miles from DTD. We had our dog with us and that was the only hotel close to DTD that allowed Pets. It was ok..they has a cute kids theater, pool with kids sctivities..ie. cannon ball contest.
Good Luck!
ps the Hilton has rates as low as 89.00 in august! With the hilton you get extra magic hours like if were staying in a disney owned hotel!

Looks like the "new" Holiday Inn is taking online reservations for December.

Heard it through the grapevine when I called...

They may have a "soft opening" starting earlier if they get ahead of schedule so you might want to call the resort directly. Rooms will be discounted due to continued renovations.

Even though this persons trip is over I have a recomendation.

The Comfort Inn at Lake Buena Vista on Palm Parkway.

It has decent bus service and a free continental breakfast.

I have stayed there 3 times total the last time in May 2007 and always have had a clean comfortable room. Takes about 20 - 25 minutes to walk to DTD. (I think it is 1.25 to 1.5 miles to DTD)

They have pretty good security also. Small place to grab and go goodies. Nice, clean, comfortable room with a refridgerator and a microwave.

Bus service is still pretty good but not as good as in the good old days. Fewer times to AK and DHS. But still better than the other hotels in the area with the possible exception of the hotels on Hotel Blvd plaza.

Hawthorne Suites

Dec. 6 will be our 6th trip in two years to WDW. We always stay at the Howthorne Suites on Palm Blvd. (take a right at the Olive Garden) The hotel is on the left about a half mile from the turn. Wonderful free breakfast every morning and additional evenings that feature wine, beer, hotdogs (free). Room choices are two room suites or single rooms both offer different bed confirgurations. Room prices differ according to time of the year and holidays. However, we have never paid more than $83/nightly and as low as $69/nightly. Great location, great staff and no I do not work for them.

Our last two trips, we stayed at the Royal Plaza, and we loved it. The bus service was better than All Star Music (we stayed there the previous trip), and the rooms are really nice. They sleep 6 people, I believe (2 beds plus a pullout couch) and the hotel does have a Disney store and decent food. I remember it not being too expensive, and we stayed in one of the Deluxe Tower Rooms with our CAA discount. I'd definitely recommend you stay there if you're looking for a hotel that's close to Disney.
