Recommend Cameras under $300

One of the nice things about the 3N for newbies is that the kit lens for it, the 16-50, is a power-zoom. So it has a zoom lever like you tend to find on point & shoots, which can be less confusing for beginners than the normal way of twisting the lens.

It took me far less time deciding on which DSLR I wanted than which P@S to get for my Wife. I personally like the Nex3N but for her I`m not sure. She will never be interested in changing lenses. I`m looking at the $300.00 range as well. Man, there are so many to choose from.
