Reason the Wand may come down?

I heartily disagree. This board is excellent. Passionate, but fun. In fact, for the most part I thought this discussion was very civil especially considering your opening salvo on this thread (see below). When you start of that aggressive then expect the same in return.
Well, yes, I will give you that; I did start off overly agressively so I can't really complain. I should apologise for that I guess! What I think prompted that response is partly being unfamiliar with (though I come in and out from time to time) the posters and culture on this board and utter amazement at a lot of things I was reading, with the predominant points of view seeming completely the opposite to what seem to be the prevailing view elsewhere (eg. ardently pro-Eisner, pro-hand and wand, anti-Lasseter/new management). It's all as valid and probably in many cases more informed than my own opinions, but I have to admit that I strongly, strongly, strongly disagree with most of what I read on here which probably provoked such an exasperated response!

That said, and I will admit that the post was edited slightly by the time I logged on to these boards, the first response according to the email notification was "Says the millions who have their picture taken in front of park icons. Dumb ahhhhzzzzz." I mean, if you want to get abusive at least present a well thought out, coherent argument to back it up!

Again, not on topic, but perhaps what bugs me most about the Hat (ignoring the fact that it's just freakin' out of place), is that it didn't have to be there at all. Disney could have instead done cosmetic work on the Chinese Theater and made it something that fit in the 20s/30s art deco style of the rest of Hollywood Boulevard, yet is uniquely Disney (ie. characters from Disney films worked into the facade akin to The Tree of Life, but more subtle). I would have been much less opposed to this simply because there wouldn't be some big, unecessary structure blocking the star attraction of the Park. And yes, The Great Movie Ride is the star attraction. It epitomizes what the Park is about, and therefore deserves to be seen clearly (and easily photographed) from the entrance. And then, miracle of miracles, Disney can make their all-important buck and take pictures in front of the new Theater.
While the Wand is ugly from every conceivable angle (my opinion) and cheapens a beautiful work of art, it at least does not prevent anyone from seeing Spaceship Earth. For that reason, I dislike it slightly less than the Hat, but that's not saying much.

100% agree!
If there were copyright issues, why not change the facade to something else that fit the theme? To me it seemed that a) the hat was a more easily marketed gimmick for the 100 Years of Magic (non-)celebration, b) it was just a quicker, easier and cheaper solution that a redesign of the GMR facade, and c) they were caught up on this need for the park to have a new big icon. Coming up with a new time period and design-appropriate facade for the theatre shouldn't have been that big an ask for WDI.

I think I hate the wand more, simply because I far prefer Epcot to D-MGM and Spaceship Earth is perhaps the only park icon to have a comparable degree of recognition to the castles. To deface one of their most recognisable symbols in such a way was criminal in my view!

If you dint like robust responses then modify your own tone!

It must be galling that a simple one liner shows your original point as lacking the cohesion you claim you want from others.

However I have noted your location and can now understand that its not your fault that you are the way you are, its in the genes.

I wouldn't go so far as to say a majority are ardently "pro-Eisner." I think there were more than a few celebrations when he left. I happen to like a lot of what he did, AKL is quickly becoming my favorite park and he is a big reason AKL exists.
You are correct, there are many people with strong and informed opinions. They do run the gamut from the purist/never change/Walt would never have done that to a more middle of the road view that the parks need to evolve. Every decision is scrutinized by people that in many cases I liken to the hardcore fans of the St Louis Rams and San Diego Chargers after a crushing playoff loss to the New England Patriots. Arm chair quarterbacking is the American past time and most of us do it with minimal understanding of all the factors and influences that go into these decisions. We have the luxury of sitting back and considering only what we like and wanting that (nothing necessarily wrong with that).

That I did not see and it should have been edited and the person must have realized how inflamatory and contrary to the rules of this board a comment like that is. However, 1 out of 260+ posts does not make us overly agressive, I prefer passionate!

One of these days I'll actually get his British sense of humor. I'm trying. At 35 I am just figuring out Monty Python. I think he is being sarcastic most of the time. :veryconfu

Well, I will say that AK is quickly becoming my favourite park as well and really think the potential is there for a park to rival DL as Disney's best. After about 1995, however, I think with only a few exceptions things started to go downhill in almost every division. I hate, hate, hate the wand and hat, new JII, etc. and DL really went to hell (the difference there now is amazing), so that's I guess what I'm basing it on as far as theme parks go.

It is, I guess, what makes Internet message boards tick and I do always get annoyed when "if you complain so much why do you go?" and "you don't have the figures so you can't make any judgement" arguments come up. I suppose it's always best to keep in mind that this is all really at the end of the day just fun and some mental, ahem, 'self-pleasuring' I will say! :animwink:

Hmm, I come from a British family (even have British citizenship and I'm sure he will know who my nick refers to whereas few Americans would) and virtually every comedy I like is British and I wouldn't call his comments reflective of "a British sense of humour"!

Hmmm, this is going waaaaay off topic!
